can you freely jump/bunnyhop in brink?

Well if the SMART system worked like it did in the trailer I want to be able to corkscrew dive around incoming rockets.

Probably just wall hop it. No rockets.

Not reading any of these other posts, just going straight to my answer to the OP cause I'm lazy :D

Yes there are dedicated jump and crouch buttons. You can, in fact, manually preform any parkour moves and some of the more advanced stuff can only be done manually.

Bunny-hopping is an old term that I first heard while playing Counter-Strike back in the day.
Only certain mechanics allow bunnyhop, and Brink doesn't have em.

You don't need prone to be able to BH, just crouch, and the game's mechanics need to allow certain physics to be used to do this.
And tbh, I don't won't to spend my time learning to BH again in a new game just to seem "pro."

I'd almost call it a 'bug' because it wasn't meant to be in any the games Ive seen people do it in.
Never been fixed till this day, in those games, due to the way the physics work (most likely).

Edit: I remember, back in the day when I scrimmed against NiP...
Needless to say, (I think it was HeatoN, not sure) one on one, BH down cat ledge and a pump to the face at mid doors.
I got wrecked. Man.... we got handled.

I don't think there is ANY prone in this game, so no bunnyhopping.

Uh?

Bunny-hopping does only mean jumping to diffuse the hitbox.

Dolphin-diving means jumping and then going prone (like it was possible in Battlefield 2 par excellence).

I felt the same way when they said "No sniper rifles." I didn't want the dumb COD one shots, but It would have been nice for novelty.

Edit: Facepalm. They have sniper rifles.

not snipers. long rifles. dont kill in one hit apart from on a light/headshot on a light.

We call it "Halo Jumping" for the kids that like to sprint, jump, turn, and shoot all in the same motion as they come around corners on games like CoD. Bunny hoping in CS was used to gain momentum and to actually jump a touch higher and further each bounce. It seemed extremely WRONG.....but alas, I never played that game and never will.

Jumping will be a key in this game, but I don't suspect most will be doing it like that since the S.M.A.R.T. system is in the game.

So they're not known as "Sniper Rifles"? Thank the heavens, maybe we'll have less god complex sniper kidz. Any word if Red Dots or at minimum Acogs will be able to be attached or are the just going with the standard scopes?

Apparently the Long Rifles can be customised like all the other guns.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_6hturF5FQ looks soooo funny, lol (especially if you can see a character doing it)!
I love seeing people jump in shooters---I personally think it's hilarious to just see it.

Until recently, I thought I was the only one who does that (usually because I just like to jump and move around for the LOLZ and I just like jumping a lot in general, hee).

Didn't realize bunny-hopping could be a [controversial]/problem in multiplayer (since I usually do it in single-player against bots in a lot of games).
But I can see now why that could be a problem. :D

I'm sure someone will find a way to "bunny hop" (or bunny slide, lol?) or hack it in or something, lol.

bunny hopping is when people constantly jump when in a open shootout to avoid getting hit in the head or at all. Jumping then going prone to avoid bullets in an ambush is called dolphin diving. I have a feeling that it would only work in the open though, hitting jump while in a firefight... only to enter a clambering animation (getting over something like a low wall, or up a fence) would get you shot twenty times before you could react. I don't think it will be a problem OP, at least not something that you should worry yourself about.

I first heard about bunnyhopping when the first Quake was new.

And I KNOW that game didn't have crouch or prone options, so no, bunnyhopping doesn't necessarily require them.

Crouch can make the strategy more effective, especially in the few games where you can mid-air crouch and reduce your size while jumping, and even moreso when you consider a couple of older FPS games with crouch functions allowed you to jump higher by crouching first. Then, as already mentioned, there was dolphin-diving, which is the one that uses prone.

Regardless, I think Lights will be very tough to hit, but just as bad at surviving when they are, so it'll all balance out.

Brink will be worse than just having "bouncing" people.

Jump, Slide, Jump, Slide, Vault, Slide, Wallrun, Jump, Mantle, Jump, Slide.

Problem is, while he's doing all this, his firing spread will be terrible, and keeping you in his sights - even if 1/4 of his shots are hitting where he's aiming.... good luck with that. Fast movers will have as much trouble aim as you'll have hitting them.

I HOPE, however, that a jump without leading into a slide has some sort of slow-down landing animation when you hit the ground.

I saw a video where the spread is not bad at all while sliding and stuff, Think it will be a big problem but on the other hand helps the low life lights while fighting heavys

Like real life, you should take a moment or two to recover from a jump.

I didn't need to.

For me, jumping from a sprint and landing anything from 0.5m higher than my takeoff, or anything up to 1m below it, I can continue sprinting with little to no slowdown. If I'm jumping higher than that, it slows me down as I get onto whatever I'm jumping to, and if I'm falling further, I have to break the fall somehow, which interrupts a sprint.

If anything they can actually have an invulnerability that lasts until you are completely rolled out of it, they did the same thing in Mirrors Edge and are "supposably" in the works of a sequel (with multiplayer I might add), after BF3. Obviously the formula works.

Terrible idea.

Immunity, even briefly, in a frantic FPS scenario is a recipe for disaster. Look no further than the new gamemode in Global Agenda -- Acquisition -- the robot had temp immunity in that for mere seconds and it was/is openly abused right now.

I'm sorry, but freely activated invulnerability simply does not work in a multiplayer environment - it WILL be abused.

So bad idea imo.

I can see it now. Millions of people rolling about on the floor. Sorta reminds me of Ocarina of Time where you would have link roll his way across Hyrule. Ah good times. Anyways, allowing any invulnerability is probably single handily the most annoying feature in all of gaming in particular multiplayer.

A roll might only be good for the game if it was when a player just jumped straight off a stupid height, and was vulnerable but couldn't shoot* throughout the roll.

If you jump three stories down and expect to be perfectly fine, then one second to do a roll and come up to a crouch should be perfectly worth it. ^_^

Edit: Also, if there's no prone but you can slide on your belly (whilst firing at enemies to boot), then do you automatically come back up to a crouch after sliding?

yeah the game is a shooter

so they want you to always be able to be shooting

while your play the shooter game

not the First-Person Combat Simulation game

There is a difference

instead of rolls they would instead slide to the break fall so you can continue shooting. Very realistic if i do say so myself, I mean anyone can jump from a 15 foot ledge land on their ass and walk it off with out slowing their pace...Right?
