can you freely jump/bunnyhop in brink?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:19 am

We all know you can use your smart button to climb ledges and so on. My question is, if the game has a dedicated jump button? I haven't seen a single video showing someone jumping on a flat surface for seemingly no reason.

There's a dedicated jump and crouch button.

Pressing crouch while sprinting is necessary to enter a slide when you're not near something you can slide under, or when you want to be aiming up while sliding (SMART relies on your aim direction to decide your action) and wallhops (jumping onto a wall, then turning away and jumping again to reach a higher ledge) can ONLY be performed using the jump button.

I don't think there is ANY prone in this game, so no bunnyhopping. There is crouching though.

Coming from Traceur experience, I am upset with the fact of I saw all these guys doing Parkour from exstrordinary heights, yet no safety rolls, only slides?

Safety rolls would break SD's rule. You can ALWAYS shoot, rolling would prevent you from firing while doing so, and it would be a canned animation as well, so it breaks a second rule.

They said early on that they didn't want to do rolls, since it would be disorienting for the roller, as well as the reasons TwoGun mentioned.

Yeah. Those.

EDIT: I'm a traceur as well, but if you played Mirror's Edge, you'd know you don't want to try and work that into the middle of a gunfight.

If anything they can actually have an invulnerability that lasts until you are completely rolled out of it, they did the same thing in Mirrors Edge and are "supposably" in the works of a sequel (with multiplayer I might add), after BF3. Obviously the formula works.

I'm sorry, but freely activated invulnerability simply does not work in a multiplayer environment - it WILL be abused.

So bad idea imo.

I admit rolls are cool, but doing that in the middle of a firefight prevents you from shooting people.

Having people be invulnerable seems a little overpowered IMO. You could just roll in the middle of a gun battle to save your ass, then your opponent's gun goes empty, and you shoot him.

Seems kinda cheap.

Adding to the abuse problems, whether you're invulnerable or not has no influence on the lack of aiming or the disorientation - both of which slow down the game.

Your thinking in the wrong context, the only time it would be applicable to do the roll if this "roll" was above a few stories. Freely having the ability to roll would be abused and would not be needed for ground rolling. TRUE. But put in the right area would completely give a sense of tactical maneuvering, rather then just as a cheap way of winning.

It does seem like the "Land on your ass slide" wouldn't save you from dying from falling a few stories, so I see where you're coming from.

But from what SD is trying to accomplish, rolls just aren't going to work. (Despite the trailer. XD)

I don't think I've played much Halo at ALL in my gaming years, and I don't think there will be energy swords in brink. ;)

As much as this upsets me to say this but I feel a sense of "false advertising" they are portraying then.

I felt the same way when they said "No sniper rifles." I didn't want the dumb COD one shots, but It would have been nice for novelty.

Edit: Facepalm. They have sniper rifles.

I'm worried more about the mexican jumping beans inserted in the pooper of every player out there. I don't mind the diving or Parkour but the "Boing, Boing, Boing." Bunny rabbits out there annoy me. A jump should be a realistic jump. Not more than a few feet off the ground at best and this should of course be measured by body type.

I'll take the lower weapon damage and other daunting gameplay issues I'm facing over this one aspect.

Like real life, you should take a moment or two to recover from a jump.

When I was talking about using the roll as more of a tactical approach I meant in the actual trailer, the Operative that jumped down from the crane that was about 2-3 stories after the explosion, he rolled out of it and thus, safely fled. Shows on the fine print. :deal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG-zbNn2at0

Honestly, I'd love to see one realistic FPS without Sniper rifles. I love them, love the OHK sniper rifles, love dodging them...but what I can't stand is the god complex noob kids behind them and the mentality that "everyone can be a sniper". Frankly, I think you should have to earn them via accuracy or such. Anyway, my two cents on SRs.

Well yes that works in a singleplayer mode and in a parkour simulation game. Brink is not a parkour simulation its an FPS with a SMART movement system.

Are rolls needed in real life. Videos games are unrealistic just look at Portal.

Brink will be worse than just having "bouncing" people.

Jump, Slide, Jump, Slide, Vault, Slide, Wallrun, Jump, Mantle, Jump, Slide.

Problem is, while he's doing all this, his firing spread will be terrible, and keeping you in his sights - even if 1/4 of his shots are hitting where he's aiming.... good luck with that. Fast movers will have as much trouble aim as you'll have hitting them.

I HOPE, however, that a jump without leading into a slide has some sort of slow-down landing animation when you hit the ground.
