Can you be a girl in Skyrim?

People don't really want to see landscape, they want action scenes with the hero fighting all of the hellspawn the game has to offer. No-one is going to be drawn in and buy game where all they have seen of it is just scenery. I don't care what the trailer is but still the character and the trailer is just advertisment, a very very thin representation of what the game has to offer.

Ugh, I hate that attitude to gaming. "People want this" "people want that" "how can we streamline our game to appeal to mainstream audiences and make more money?" "who cares what existing fans want, lets lure in more fans with lots of action"

Of the three game trailers, Morrowind is the truest representation of the game in my opinion. The game was very popular, so clearly not everyone needs action to convince them to buy a game.

Ugh, I hate that attitude of fans. "It's my game, no one else may play it".

And if you have a problem with the main quest limiting you or whatnot, do whatever you're doing right now, and just ignore it.

As for people getting confused about it, it's their fault they can't read the back of the box...

You will be able to choose your gender it is a hallmark of the Elder Scrolls I have no reason what so ever to doubt they will take it out, if they try I fear the fans would mutiny against Bethesda... :flamethrower:

That's not what I'm saying at all. I just hate the attitude (not just in games but in all media) of trying to appeal to everyone. All it does is creates an inferior product. Developers of an RPG should just accept that their game is aimed at RPG fans and try and make the best possible product for that audience, instead of trying to appeal to every single person who owns a console or a gaming PC.

You see it in television too. Networks hire middle-aged men in suits to do surveys and find out how to maximize the appeal of a show by including / excluding certain things like a token six scene, etc. It's ridiculous.

If developers just focus on a specific audience, new fans will still always come along with every release. Changing things to appeal to a much broader audience just alienates old fans.

Yes, you can be a female. There is a single screenshot of a female PC in the new PS3 magazine. She's walking towards a huge city.

Except that mainstreaming is not a sure way to make money, yes the marked is larger but the number of competitors are far higher making it hard to make money and impossible to predict sale.
this has been know a long time in TV and Radio.
game producers also know this but sometimes they forget it.

I agree with this they try to focus on appealing to everybody and I am sorry but you cannot please everybody. If a game is meant to be something it should be that. They are trying to diversify everything in games especially with RPG's and it does drag the product down and it waters down the whole concept of what makes an RPG an RPG. Another thing I hate is trying to flood every title with a ridiculas amount of action. Dont get me wrong I like action in some games not all I also think from what I have read and seen so far in Skyrim the combat will be much improved thus making it more fun, but for me I want a lot of focus put into exploration and story. :liplick:

Not quite. If I recall, Imperials and orcs weren't playable until Morrowind.

Except Redguard! You can turn into a http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/tsorg_part08image02.jpg there though, so it's hardly a loss.

We won't have to option of actually being the Nord Dovahkiin, unless you go out and create him yourself. For advertisemant purposes, it's a face to a name. Commander Shepard is pretty much BioWare saying, "This is canonical! Accept it!" I mean have you tried making another character in Mass Effect? It's horrible! JUST HORRIBLE! D:

Actually, none of my ME or ME2 Shepards are the default male Shep. I can't stand the voice acting for him, and he never made it off the Normandy to Eden Prime before I deleted that character and started over.

LOLz, You have no understanding of the character in the game, I'm afraid.

Mass Effect/Shepard? Not really since I care very little for it.
