Can you have a house without anyone bothering you?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 4:39 pm

So I bought my first house in Riften. Nice little place once you upgrade it. But it came packaged with Iona. Can I get rid of her? When I'm inside every 5 seconds she says something like honored to be here thane, I'm your sword and shield, I just want her to be quiet. I imagine the other buyable houses come with annoying housecarls as well, can't I just live alone in peace?

You could ask her to follow you and then put a sword into her skull.

buy a house before becoming thane perhaps? or a house somewhere where you can't become thane because it requires suchandsuch evil quest to do.

i say Before because even Morthal, a town where you can't buy a house, i was able to become Thane.

I bought the Riften house and didn't become Thane. No housecarl to bother me.

Same, just me and my wife.

But if you want to get rid of a Housecarl, make them join the Blades.

My big issue is with Solitude's Housecarl. She's sixy, but such a [censored]. Every time I come in she says something like "What are you doing here?" or like "Do you need something" with a sarcastic tone.

It's odd, because all of her usual dialog is polite and even cute.

Solution? Take them on an adventure and let them die.

I've kept her around - same house myself - for any DLC or MODs that adds lingerie.

Good guy option is ask her to follow you then walk her to the nearest pub and tell her to wait. Every few days she'll get bored and return to your house and you'll have to repeat the process. Downside is I don't think you can have other human followers dong this as she's till technically grouped with you.

Best "Nice guy" solution out there. Here are some other lame ones:

If you are on a PC, you can just type "disable" in the console and they will vanish.
Likewise, you can use simple commands to either disable just their talking, or reduce the range at which they say things to 0 or 1 (practically have to bump into them before they talk).

I don't mind using the console to overcome such annoyances, because you technically aren't cheating. It's more like a quick, homemade mod.

I feel the same way about whats her name in WR... I wish she would just shut up... Is there a reason I can't tell her to get lost?
