Can you import Oblivion resources?

Post » Tue Aug 20, 2013 4:25 am

Hello, folks. How are ya? I'm currently doing the storyboard for my upcoming quest mods, King's Moot and (far down the line) Dragonborn in Cyrodiil. However, before I begin work on these mods, I'd like to know how much work is cut out for me. Specifically, when developing a Cyrodiil expansion for Skyrim, is it possible to import Oblivion resources into the Skyrim creation kit?

For example, could I lift a Great Chapel from Cyrodiil to use it in Skyrim? Or the walls of the Imperial City? Or the White Gold Tower? Hell, could I lift the entire map and scrub out the flora and replace it with Skyrim flora? These are things I've never dealt with in my small foray into modding.

P.S.

Anyone know how I can get into touch with amateur voice actors? I'm looking for people who can convincingly pull off the voices of the Jarls.

Oh. Well... Crap. What's illegal about it? I'm not recreating Oblivion. I'm trying to create Skyrim-era Cyrodiil.

If it is illegal, could anyone point me to a resource where I could learn how to model things?

So, this applies to using a Bethesda product in another Bethesda product? The wording seems to imply that you're not allowed to bring other game materials into Morrowind or vice-versa.

"We do not and will not get involved in the policing of the [Morrowind] Mod community. However, in no way, shape, or form can we allow people to talk about taking copyrighted and proprietary materials from other games and using them for mods for [Morrowind]."

"*The use of Morrowind here also applies to any of the other games. "

As far as finding voice actors, check out some of the links in http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1470237-what-do-i-do-story-mod-but-i-dont-want-to-va/.

The problem with using other game resources, is that you will, effectively, be distributing pieces of IP that you don't own. You can recreate the models and whatever else you please to do of your own accord, but you cannot directly import from games not licensed under a creative commons.

I think it has something to do with the people involved in creating the resources may not work at Bethesda any more to. I may have just made that up though. It's one of those Mondays!

Not a big fan of some of Beyond Skyrim's plot. They want to say that the Imperial City is wrecked and the Imperial Province has been divided into City-States where the law of the Imperial Legion is barely respected (at least according to their wiki) when nothing in Skyrim points to this.

The focus of the mod I'd like to make is the story, not the province. The province comes into play because that's where the story leads. Beyond Skyrim's is the other way around, it would seem, and reminds me of the Silgrad's Tower project which never came to fruition.

Privately, yes.

Publicly releasable, no.
