Can you just shut up?

I call on the hypocrite statement, then. The extensiveness of Daggerfall's reputation system, the sheer quantity of possibilities within Daggerfall's character creation system, the attention to general world detail and scope (holidays, seasons... actually moving NPCs), the atmosphere (Morrowind's music has two modes, combat and everything else... including happy-go-lucky music in Morrowind's relatively inviting, cheerful dungeons while Daggerfall invokes unique soundtracks for a variety of different situations and just sets a far more relevant atmosphere for just about anything going on at any given time; Daggerfall's dungeon noises simply cannot be beat), and you know what, even the plot surpass Morrowind's. Morrowind had some more interesting lore within its books on the history behind the Tribunal, the cursing of the Dunmer, and the Heart of Lorkhan, but its actually story was a linear, uninspiring chain of fetch quests while Daggerfall's had something Morrowind's completely lacked... choice and tangible involvement within the political machinations of the Iliac Bay. Morrowind sure does provide some more exotic background and general setting, but the game, as an RPG and as a "realistic" game aimed at mature, non handheld gameplay, is simply not up to Daggerfall's ambition. If that means the shunning of fully polygonal 3D graphics to enjoy, so be it, but yes, it's hypocritical.

To each his own I guess, i'm not denying that Daggerfall was epic, because it was, I just simply enjoyed Morrowind more. That is all.

Maybe I should replay Daggerfall..... it's been awhile.

I did indeed give Morrowind the edge, because of graphic improvement. Why? Because Morrowind's story itself was epic and the graphics went hand-in-hand with one another. Daggerfall was, and still is great, but when Morrowind finally brought TES back, it made everyone step back and say "Whoa".

Morrowinds story was great and the graphic improvement made it that much more epic. Call me a hypocrite if you will for saying the same about Morrowind and Skyrim, but the difference is Skyrim's storyline isn't better than Morrowinds.

It's got a bit more potential for dramatic flair. Honestly, I loved morrowind, but not for the storylines. Morrowind was about going on a bunch of research field trips for most of the story, right up to the invasion of Illunibi. After that, it got a fair bit mroe interesting, but it wasn't epic at all.

There wasn't a feeling of impending doom(which Oblivion came relatively close to, and Skyrim shoots for but misses spectacularly). It just felt like you were fixing a local plague problem. Not saving the world. That's something Oblivion comes closest to IMO. Sure, you find out about Dagoth Ur's plan at the end, but it STILL doesn't feel like it'll affect the world. It had the best backstory out of the last 3 TES games, but it's story felt a bit like an item in the dust-covered part of an agenda

And that's just the main quest. Guilds didn't even HAVE an overarching story to them(except Fighters/thieves guild, and the morag tong). That was something Oblivion did better, and skyrim screws up about as bad as morrowind- I become the leader of the guild because I play errand boy over and over again. what a wonderful and engaging tale.

And yes, I'm calling you a hypocrite.

Your argument isn't better than the one you so hastily dismissed in page 1.

Eh, I like Morrowind and Skyrim for different reasons. They both excel at certain things and utterly fail at others. In fact I have another Morrowind character running at the same time as my Skyrim guy. I like the games for different reasons.

Morrowind, for me, nailed these things: Story. Factions. Player decisions changing the world. Character customization.

Skyrim, for me, nailed these things: Combat. Visuals. World immersion. Interesting NPCs and interesting side (as in non-faction- and non-main-quest-related) quests.

.....Did you read what I posted, at all. I like the way the game itself was put together. Morrowind to me felt complete. Complete = Graphics, storyline, immersion, character customization/development etc etc.

My "argument" stated that the only thing Skyrim has over Morrowind is graphics, which is what my comment intended to imply.

That's ok - you can call me what you wish, that is your opinion. My opinion is Morrowind is the greatest ES game ever made. That will never change.

Obviously Skyrim is better. But Morrowind's story was probably much much better. I honestly have only played Oblivion and Skyrim, and the stories were both mediocre. It's the open world that makes it so great.

So the thing you have no experience with is "obviously" inferior?

to those saying morrowind's story is better, all those years ago when it first came out and I got it, I wasn't even sure there was a story. Heck, even now after owning it for over 6 years I still haven't delivered the letter to Caius Cosades. Skyrim has a better sense of story, despite all its other flaws.

So you're judging Morrowind's story on the basis that you've actively ignored it therefore it can't be very good?

I am flabbergasted by such things as these.

In other news. People keep comparing Skyrim to Morrowind because they want to see Skyrim (or more realistically, the next Elder Scrolls game) improved to meet their expectations from the older game. They have an emotional investment in the series and want to see it prosper and are highlighting areas where they feel progress has not been made (or has been negative). Such discussion is invaluable to game designers when they look at what worked and what didn't.
