Unless you get the option to come out of the closet after coming out of the Vault, I doubt it. Spouse and child seem riveted to you.

It's not a ridiculous question. You could be gay or bisixual in New Vegas.

Its possible there might be, but most likely not. Besides the fact i doubt the fallout universe is very accepting of gays, if the story isn't totally revolved around getting revenge for his/her family it won't make too much of a difference if you're straight, gay, pan, or bi it'll just have to be in your head because more than likely there won't be much romance in the game.

Yes. You could, And the grife and "what abouts", "what ifs" and "I thinks" were a fecal hurricane in their own right.

Not that I mind. I just dont care what sixuality people have. If you want to have a relationship with dogmeat, roleplay it on your own time. If you are gay, you had the perks. But that wasnt enough for some people....

As expected, this is what happens when you have a pre-set character with history.

I agree. I would love to roleplay in my own time. Unfortunately, I cannot; five minutes into the game I discover I'm in a heterosixual relationship with a man who I love dearly (or at least pretend to). And that's a shame. Not riot-worthy, of course, but disappointing nevertheless.

I am expecting that after you wake up you are free to have relationships with men or women, as with the latest Bethesda games. As for the intro I'm rather disappointed. I see it as a huge oversight and just downright lazy, how hard would it be to get a different voice actor for the whole 10-20 minutes of game time the intro is? Also they could either write some lore of the issue or just leave it vague (although I'd prefer some lore, homosixuals do make up something like 5-10% of the population?). Todd Howard said at E3 that "You can create any kind of character you want" and "Player freedom remains our absolute number 1 goal," this is making me question his honesty and intelligence with such a glaring oversight. I'm starting to sound like one of those loud, mad, vocal minorities but I just really like Fallout and want to love the next instalment. I'm okay with some narrative restrictions, didn't have a problem with Fallout 3's father narrative as everyone has one. A hetero spouse and a child though, no no!

If that's your thing, go for it. They did show the male character wearing a woman's dress.

That's not changing six. That's changing which character you want to play as, the husband or the wife.

This is cross-dressing, unrelated to a person's sixual orientation or identity.

First you should ask "can my character become a couple at all in this game ?"

For as far as we know, after the bombs fall the spouse + child might be dead, and the game just like Fallout 3 might not even have an option for having a relationship with an NPC, nor straight or gay.

Was there a option for romance in FO before?
I remember several npc's stating a preference, usually based on a perks selected early in the game, but can't remember a option to pursue any romance.
If that's the case, you'll be free to assume anything about your characters preferences to suit your personality since many gay men during that era would often live public and private personas. Just think of the end of the world as a good reason to shed masks.

You can still be gay and be married to a female... It don't has to be love.

I disagree but to each his own.

This topic was most likely meant to be a troll thread anyway. OP only has 3 posts and will most likely abandoned the thread. Gender and sixual orientation seem to be always be an issue anytime character creation is mentioned.

It is an issue of player freedom in fairness, the character backstory is a limiting narrative (you must also be aware of pre-war life, are a parent etc.). In this specific case, you could easily be bi/closeted (given "the attitudes of the 50s carried on for another 140 years before the war"). Compared to NV, where your only restriction was "You're a courier" or even 3, which was "You're a Vault Dweller and you have a specific Dad character". I can see how this developed from 3 though.

The wearing a dress thing is also important, actually, as it indicates that hopefully instant transforming clothes are no longer a thing, giving much more freedom/variety in clothing and armour, actually this is one of the points I see as a definite plus as it's going back to older style multiple armour parts. This doesn't make up for the possible loss of skills though.

Probably not, so there's something for you to complain about at least.

As much as a stretch as it's become now to think about how this kind of thing is going to work for RPs and the like,

The Old world of Fallout is based in a pseudo 40s 50s culture, if you were gay at that time you were closeted or intensely ostracised. I haven't heard anything yet that indicate that you couldn't imagine this as being the case for your character.
