I believe selling them to a merchant and buying them back makes them unstolen.

If you steal it without being detected, then the "stolen" effect on the item is not active, they will not try to take the weapon from you on sight. I stole Recompense of the Fallen and the Legion still respects me.

The ONLY way to steal and not have it marjed is to sell and buy back.. even if your not seen a stolen item is still marked and all stolen items get nabbed if your caught.

When no one is looking casually put it back and look like you did nothing wrong. :)

Too lazy to look it up, but isn't there a console command that can do it? Like click on it and 'set ownership' or something? I know I'm remembering it from an earlier game (Oblivion or Fallout 3) but for the most part the console commands have stayed the same.

I haven't tested this yet in Vegas but it worked in 3 and hell it's the same engine so here goes
Find a place with a hostile human in a confined space
Remove all weapons from that space, break any weapons the hostile is holding
Place the Sequoia in either a body or a container with 1 round of ammo or the Dog Tag fist just by itself (obviously)
Let the hostile pick up the weapon you've planted
Kill the hostile.
Loot the weapon which will no longer count as stolen.

If you want to launder a piece of armor, like the Van Graff Combat Armor you can nick from outside the Silver Rush after it stops being a quest item, put it on somebody you want to kill, go somewhere else, wait 73 hours, come back, ice that poor bastard, and it should be clean.

You can just steal-plant those objects on any NPC, let him equip them by reentering game cell or saving/reloading then kill him.

Ah, the countless times I used him and the Dar Jee as 'item launderers'.

Does this work with all merchants or just some of them? I know the guy (Cliff?) in the dino/Novac works.
