I don't want any huge spoilers please but I'm coming near the end of the game and was wondering if you can still play your character after you beat the main quest or should I have a few saves?

Yes, there is heaps to do after the main quest line. Exploring, repeatable quests, lots of settlements to build. I'm personally looking forward to exploring the whole map after things settle a little after the main quest.
