Can you only marry once?!

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 1:13 pm

Allu everyone... Okay so obviously the whole marriage thing in Skyrim is not a huge deal or even a necessity (heck, I just use my followers as pack-mules anyway!) - but I'm just curious as to why my character only seems to be able to wed once? My first "husband" was killed (friendly fire I think, from a ginormous Destruction blast) - and I had thought that by wearing the Amulet of Mara and speaking to other followers, another spouse could be had?
So far, I have NEVER AGAIN seen the marriage dialogue appear, with anyone, and I'm wondering if maybe there is a bug afoot?

Any info would be appreciated heh - just would like to sate my curiosity ^^

I've seen a bit of talk on this.

Personally, I think its a conscious design choice in order to prevent people from farming them for money.

Think about it, they all open shops and generate 100 gold a day.

If you are able to marry say 10 people. You make 1k a day.

Now because that stacks, you could sleep several days and just farm as much money as you could ever need without working for it.

Don't think so. Some people say that you can wear another amulet of Mara, but I haven't bothered with the marriage feature yet so I have no idea.

Yeah, I wasn't talking about having more than one spouse at a time though! Like I said, previous one was killed...was just thinking that after that you should be able to marry again. Eh, like I said, it's not crucial since I can still get 'followers' to come with me - but you're right, the store perk and the 'sleeping' perk won't be available. Oh well.

Funny, I even tried dumping the first Amulet and donning a new one but nope, didn't work either. Gah.

That's a load of crap, I'm LDS and you're allowed to remarry after a divorce or loss of a spouse. You just can't marry multiple women at once (something most of the world thinks we do) because it's illegal and immoral. Anyways I'm guessing it's either a bug or Bethesda just got lazy with it (I'm betting on the lazy.)

The marriage script does not reset if you lose a spouse, which is why I'm glad I got the game for pc, I intend to mod it so that if the player character loses a spouse they then have 1 in game week of mourning after which they will be able to marry again.

I heard that sometime after your spouse dies you get a a inheritance letter then after that you can go remarry. I saw this at wiki. I guess some players are experiencing this.

Spoiler
Gain Amulet of Mara.
Speak to Maramel, he mentions they do wedding ceremonies, the marriage script is not initiated until you've had that conversation with him.
