Can you play without an update?

Can you play the game on PS4 (Physical Copy) without the D1 update if there is one? I'm new to PS4 and honestly I don't know if games can be played without the updates.

I would assume so, tho it be best long term wise to find a way to hook up to the net so you can update.

The only games I've played on PS4 that forced me to update was if they were multiplayer and even then only if I wanted to play the multiplayer portion.

Do you mean D1 as in day one update, like the update they'd give at 12:01 am November 10th? That update is required since it will contain the files that activate the game to actually play it, but as far as subsequent updates, I don't think they'd keep you from playing offline (the game wouldn't even know that there is an update if it was offline). But downloading updates is highly recommended.

You won't need the day one update to play. If they made it mandatory, that would be like them saying "you have to have internet to play or games!" Which isn't the case. BUT, good luck with the bugs if you don't update. Lol

But... but... Beth said updates will have additional content as well as bug fixes! You wouldn't want to miss out on those would you?!

I better not have to download an update just to play the game and have full access to all day one content. If we do, going gold means absolutely nothing anymore.

No need to worry. You will NOT need updates to play. Bethesda is, however, rolling out updates with additional, free content.

Well sorry to disapoint you but youll def need to(or at least want to) download a day 1 patch.

I mean even if its possibile to do it without updates/patches why wud you want to play an unpatched game.(Bethesda while making brilinat games has always been known to release quet buggy games at start)

That's exactly my point. What does Bethesda have to gain by shipping a bug-tastic game only to fix it with a patch three weeks later? Why do they go gold when they're well aware that there are glaring flaws? It makes sense that millions of gamers would eventually discover bugs that alpha/beta testers are unlikely to experience, but those updates would come way after day one. I want to be able to play the game ten minutes after I get it, and not have to go over to my friend's place to use her internet.

If it's a connection speed issue, such as with me,since I live out in the country, the PS4 will allow you to play while the patch will download in the background. I've done this with lots of games and before you know it the patch is ready.

Yeah let's blame Bethesda for utilizing updates for fixes instead of delaying they game. Not their fault you don't have internet. Next Gen consoles originally came with the understanding that internet would be needed for a lot of their core funtionality.

Here's the deal. It's nobody's "fault". If WE ran Bethesda we would be doing the SAME thing THEY are doing. Yes they love making games but it is also their job, so bottom line is very much important. And for the people saying everyone SHOULD have internet, that's just not the case. Not everyone is as lucky as some of us so get off their backs.

It is also possible that some of the reviewers will encounter bugs that the Alpha/Beta testers didn't, just because their hardware/software setups are different. Also, in a game as large and complex as FO4, there will *always* be bugs to squash. Even if they are only small bugs, like a mesh that is slightly aligned wrong or a misspelled word in the subtitles.

Yeah! I don't care about bugs when I know they'll be fixed soon enough. I actually think it's kinda fun with bugs, crazy things happen and I like crazy things.

Lol, it seems I misunderstood the topic.

I'd get the d1 patch regardless (if there is one) it usually fixes some major performance issues (if any) and progress halting bugs (if any)

I wasn't really blaming anyone for not having internet. But you can't also then expect Bethesda to just delay a game to try and squash more bugs instead of a Day 1 update. By that same effect people without internet would rather them wait until the game is all done, patches are all done, dlc all done, and everything packaged on disk before putting it out. Ok, see you in 2 years when the Ultimate/GOTY/You Have No Internet Edition comes out. It's unrealistic to think that a game as large as a Bethesda game won't ever need internet access to get the whole experience.

Thanks guys. The reason I had to ask is that I wont be getting my copy for a while due to the fact that somebody along the line decided not to send the PBE to the gamestop stores. I was told I would get it the day of but I don't know what time. That plus the fact that I work until late in the evening means that if I cant play without an update, I might as well put it off to the next day. I will probably come home during lunch to download the game from the disk to the console.

And I really don't want to put it off until the next day.
