Can you side with the Great Khans?

Post » Thu Sep 02, 2010 1:04 am

Well originally I was going to side with the Legion, but now that I met the Great Khans and learned of their history I'm a bit more sympathetic towards them. I know that the Legion is only using the Khans to get rid of the NCR and once the NCR is dealt with they intend to enslave them and turn their women in to breeding machines, basically.

So as soon as I heard of that I wanted to convince Papa Khan to end the alliance to the Legion, however if it's not possible to side with them entirely like you can with the NCR and the Legion I do not want to convince them to leave the alliance because they would be absent at the end of the game, right?

Just curious..

It's a bit misleading because of what Regis says. He gives you a gesture that the Khans would 'side' with the NCR but that doesn't happen. If you do the Khans' quest, and you break the alliance, all that happens is that the Khans leave the Mojave Wasteland and are absent from the final battle. You can't get another outcome, AFAIK.

Well if I convince the Khans to leave will that hurt my chances with joining the Legion? I want to join the Legion but I want to convince the Khans to leave if it doesn't hurt my chances, or give me negative reputation with the Legion.

Not nearly big enough players.

What would happen if you "sided" with the Khans? They are just a small tribe, the same kind Caesar has conquered over 80 times already, and the NCR has destroyed or pushed off their land dozens of times themselves.

The Khans were actually the original enemies of the NCR, they were a constant menace to the town of Shady Sands 120 years prior. I'm surprised the Khans haven't been completely exterminated by now.

Before the Legion and the NCR arrived the Khans ruled a lot of Nevada. The NCR eliminated most of the Khans and drove them into Red Rock.

Legion wants to enslave the Khans, and the NCR massacred women and children of the Khans at Bitter Springs and claim it was an accident.

I guess you can't side with the Khans. It would be cool if you could, eliminating the Legion the NCR and uniting the tribes would be a cool ending.

Convincing the Khans not to side with the Legion will only cause Caesar to get verbally angry at you when you first meet him, but nothing else happens. You can still side with the Legion.

Convincing the Khans to leave is actually the best thing you can do for them. Things turn out badly for the Khans if they side with the Legion and the NCR wins, things turn out badly if they side with the Legion and the Legion wins, and things turn out badly if they don't side with the Legion and the NCR wins. There's no way to get them to side with the NCR. But convincing them to leave results in a great ending for them, and it's the best option.

Not for me.

For me they [SPOILER]

Moved north and joined with the followers of apocolypse, both groups prospered together

They ruled over large parts of Nevada because the NCR already drove them out of California and most of Nevada's already a wasteland today, before Nuclear war.

They don't have nearly enough power to fight against either of those groups.

I will convince them to leave then and side with the Legion, thanks.

BTW -Is there a bug with the Oh Papa quest? I've completed all the objectives for the quest yet I can't talk to Papa and convince him to break the alliance, there simply isn't a dialog option for it. Do I need to continue the main quest first, visit the fort and bring evidence or something? I convinced all the advisers to voice against the alliance, I humiliated and killed the emissary, and took his journal that talks about the Legion enslaving but apparently that's not enough info. Help?

I could have sworn that they only went to Wyoming and prospered if they fled the wasteland durning the final battle? I looked in the GECK and if they stay behind but don't side with the Legion they're supposed to go to Idaho.

You went to the fort and got the evidence needed as well? If you did, then I don't know, that should have been it. Maybe it's a bug?

What are you talking about ? its part of the for the republic quest to either exterminate them or make them join NCR in the final battle.

Exactly, and out of those two options, the only possible option is to exterminate them. Papa Khan will not side with the NCR. Had Obsidian wanted to, it might have been possible to kill him and let his second in command take charge, because he said he would side with the NCR, however you can't kill Papa Khan without turning the Khans hostile. The only options are to exterminate them, allow them to flee during the final battle, or don't do anything and let them side with the Legion.

Trust me, I've already done the quest for the Khans and that particular For The Republic quest, and I know you can't get them to side with the NCR. Even after getting Papa Khan to break the alliance with the Legion, he gets angry at you if you ask him to side with the NCR and threatens to kill you if you bring it up again.

I should also note that even if you don't do anything for the Khans you can still lie during that quest and choose the dialogue option "The Khans wont be bothering anyone anymore."

Heh? When I killed Papa Khan they turned hostile on me, and I thought I wasn't noticed either...

I'll have to try again on another playthrough, if I do another one. Though as I said before, the best thing you can do for them is persuade them to flee.
