Can you write better than the current makers of Fallout?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 11:08 am

There have been alot of great idea's on this forum thus far, but do the writers listen to us? Do they use our ideas to further their careers? Or do they give us the benefit of the doubt and say the ideas are nice but not worthy?

I seriously hope to get some sort of response from Bethesda or Obsidian.

Better?
No, not better, not worse either, around the same level, sure, but it depends on what I'm suppose to write about.

It's a team thing I'm sure. If we all worked together on making an entire Fallout game, could we do it?

Actually i found that 2/4 0r 1/4 of Fallout New Vegas atleast was nothing more but reworked nexus famous mods so Together yeah we can write better. A lot better. I came across a few game developers at my time. They couldnt think out of the picture. They only though small. They were very slow to implement dramatically new ideas which would have made games only better. Fans on the other hand as a big group is times larger when developer team making it a huge out of the picture mind. Each fan has his own ideas which mosly always suit fallout universe but the problem is that developers have no money to do such things as many of request or simply post. I'd say that when Next fallout is announce they should make few contests like:
Quests Contest-Winner, Second and third place quests are put into the game plus real world prices and depending on the place(1st,2nd,3rd) the result and reward of the quest in game varies.
Location Contest- The locations of three winners are put into the game.

etc...

I agree, it's often forgotten by fans that development must not exceed the budget.

Well I don't like to blow my own trumpet but I would love to write for a video game company in general, I mean they are not exactly demanding you write the next Shakespeare or Charles dikeens. However I feel the best way would be a series of competitions.

The first one would be a location competition, where you send in a real life place name and give a short essay on why it would be a good location for a post nuclear RPG. (so no reference to Fallout games in general).

The second would be when the Developers choose a location from the entrants and then we come up with ideas for locations (i.e. dungeons) and factions to appear.

Finally, there is a game mechanics competition, what people liked about previous games and things they haven't seen in previous game that they would like to see in a new Fallout game.

Take all the best ideas from the last two competitions, and profit.

That would be genius!

Although I'd probably get carried away and send in fifteen different essays under different usernames (I have enough emails  JK)

I don't know, If the people with good ideas got together and wrote a Fallout it would probably be really good. If the entire forums pitched in, well... The game would simply svck. There are so many bad ideas, perhaps more that the good ones. If there are actually more well thought out ideas then poor ones, the game would still be bad because there would be a substantial amount of crap.

I nominate you, Gizmo, FalloutFTW, Styles, UnDeCafIndeed, Colonel Martyr and Boradam to write it. :hubbahubba:

NO, New Vegas is not modded, it is a new and better game its just that certain ideas were taken from nexus while making gameplay.

Mods, you know the ones on nexus. There were many of them and i right now without thinking tel you it was hardcoe mod and throwing weapons other ones werent that significant and i dont remember all.

Throwing weapons were in all the older Fallouts, and was demanded back by old-school players like alot of other things. hardcoe may have been a mod before aswell, because a lot of people thought Fallout 3 was too easy (it really was, I die all the time in NV :D) and that's usually when mods evolve, when things aren't to the liking of someone or some people with modding skills, and a demand for it. But the demand was not only shown in mods, I also saw alot of people who suggested that on the forums during development aswell like "make stimpaks not heal crippled limbs and not heal instantly, makes battles far too east, you just have to Hotkey stimpaks" and "ammo should have weight, it's weird that you can carry around thousands of rounds of each caliber and they do not weigh you down" and "we're in a hot desert, drinking should be necessary". That, along with DT made the game harder and better imo.

Mods that Obsidian saw, liked and put in are the weapon modifications, which they even said they got the idea by from mods in an interview.

Write better plot / dialogue / narrative - I think so. You be the judge. Hehe. B)

Write a better game? Probably not - I'm not used to working under the constraints of that medium.

Write as in "program" the game - no way.

Yeah i know that, i didnt said that was bad thing. It is on the other hand is excellent when the devs listen to fans. Yeah i i was wrong about throwing weapons because i never used them in fallout 1 and 2 so i forgot about them.
