Is Cannibalism really bad in the Wasteland?

Post » Tue Jan 05, 2010 2:38 am

In a place where food and supplies are limited, there shouldn't be anything wrong with eating already-dead bodies to stay alive.

If you kill them to eat them, that's a different story.

Consumption of Human tissues risks transmitting things like prions to the cannibal. So for health reasons, wastlanders should look elsewhere.

It is morally wrong, no matter what the situation, to knowingly consume the flesh of your own species.

Because you are eating something that was once alive? So only vegetarians are morally right?

SPOILER!!

It depends. If you are dying and need some food in the next 5 minutes or you'll die, and there's a dead corpse lying in-front of you. Then you are gonna have to. But to the people in Andale who continuously eat random wastelanders. THEN its a crime against nature.

I'm of the opinion that "soylent green" is wrong/bad, but not as wrong/bad as it would be in the real world where food is plentiful and cheap.

Here's a question: Is it wrong to steal food if you need it to survive?

Depends on whether it's going to affect the other party significantly. If you'll both die without food and only have enough food for one of you, I'd say it's flat-stock grey. Actually, if you absolutely NEED it for survival, I'd say it's always flat-stock grey.

I think it's always wrong. But you do what you have to do.

If they didn't kill the person for food, I see nothing wrong with it.

Hey, in real life, cannibalism is legal in the USA, you know. You can't get punished for eating a human corpse, however you can be punished for killing the person (if you did) and dismemberment of a corpse, but cannibalism in and of itself, is not illegal.

No, because you are eating what was a sentient being.

So animals aren't sentient? How about if you eat a person with a low IQ?

Most animals don't kill their own kind. Its ok to eat others just not your own. Besides can you really see yourself eating your best friend? Thats disgusting. :yuck:

Not when your friend is already dead and the alternative is starving to death?

If I was dead, I'd probably want my best friend to eat my body so he/she won't die, too. Or worms will get it anyways.

If it's truly called for, the consumption of a dead person if completely moral in my book. Other people may find it absolutely horrible in any situation, but I don't get why eating some thing that was once a sentient being is wrong given the situation.

No I'm pretty sure most don't kill their own kind. Yea the fight to be the alpha-male & such but I am pretty sure they don't kill. Especially not eat.

Edit: Okay maybe when they are not starving. :P

Half of those pictures didn't show them eating each other. Maybe they could have been a different species except the spiders. I know the females kill the male to feed her and their off-springs. Maybe it was mammals that don't kill each other? I heard it on Discovery channel.

How would it be wrong? Only reason I've seen is "it's morally wrong"....Why is it?

I see nothing wrong with it. [censored], even killing humans isn't really that bad to me. As long as I think they deserved to die I'm fine with killin 'em. We're just another type of animal. But that's me.

I can see reasons why people would say killing is wrong. But I don't see why eating a corpse would be wrong. Other then it just sounding unpleasant and probably tasting/smelling horrible.
So, it's not that bad as long as you didn't kill an innocent person for food.

All a matter of perspective and opinion. There won't be a real answer to this subject.

Burning bodies smell like a barbecue roast.

Not a pleasant association...
