Cannon Vehicles

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:29 am

I'd be interested to know, which of the following vehicles from Fallout Tactics would be considered "Cannon".

Modified M4 Sherman Tank: In my opinion, definitely would be "Cannon" as it was held in service until 1955.
BOS APC: Could most likely be cannon, as it has been assembled from "scavenged" parts.
Raider Buggy: Could most likely be cannon, as it is a "scavenged" vehicle.
HMMWV: Definitely NOT cannon as it was brought into production 1984.
BOS Scouter: Could most likely be cannon, as its assembled from VW parts.

Any thoughts on other vehicles I might have missed?

I think he/she wants to say 'canon', not cannon.

My mistake, I did mean to say "Canon" as it relates to the fiction of Fallout, and not Cannon as it relates to a Howitzer.

I don't really consider BOS vehicles canon, because, if the west coast BOS couldn't assemble them (the airship is a lie), how would the newly organized east coast BOS have them (I'm talking about FO:T, just to be clear).

Airships arent really that techichal. Get some lightweight material, fill it full of hydrogen (theres a big ocean nearby full of it), Add a propeller on the back.

Its very early 20th Cenuury tech - No problem for the brotherhood.

That's true, but they need some factories for that, right? And the hummer, the APC, they need to put those together somewhere.

Not really. Lighter than air flight debuted without a factory.

Hyrdogen is relatively easy to get out of water, especially if you have atomic power at your disposal - you might have experimented with a "Hoffman Apparatus" in school chemistry, just apply an electric current to water and the oxygen and hydrogen will seperate - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoffman_Apparatus

All you need then is to make a big "sock" to fill it with (if Vree can invent a laser pistol, I think she can master basic textiles), and something to tie on the bottom. Add a big fan.

Hummer and APC would have been built with scavanged parts.

Hummer wouldn't have existed in Fallout's alternate timeline. Chris Taylor wanted it replaced with a Jeep, but MicroForte devs did not listen.

I think that for FO4 they should have Zepplins. I know that the West Coast BOS said that they did'nt want to deal with the BOS in Washington, but like how in the Fallout Universe past when the Zepplin Fleet was caught in that storm and the Zepplins all crashed. In FO4 thay could have a new Zepplin fleet that gets lost on its way to some place in the US and lands somewhere on the East Coast on accident (Not Washington). I think that would be cool :tops:

This is assuming the game is going to be set on the East Coast again. Ive personally had enough of the "Capitol Wasteland".

EDIT: But yea, Zeppelins, or a field of them crashed, would be awesome :goodjob:

I agree, thats why I said (NO Washington) I've had enough of the Capital Wasteland also. Maybe FO4 could be in Maine or Tennesse, and then a group of West Coast Brotherhood Paladins and Knights could land there and start something up, but thats far from what this thread is about.

How would Maine or Tenessee appeal to the International Audience? Heck, I have no idea where Tenesse is, never mind whats there.

Picking a location for FO4 is a marketing excersize as much as anything - Fo3 has show us the power of seing ruined internationaly recognised landmarks, I doubt FO4 would intentionally lose this.

FO1 and FO2 were set in California, but didn't really feature any recognizable landmarks.

I know, and that is what I think is possibly the biggest flaw with the originals - the Genericness of the landscape - It could be anywhere really. The only place that makes the Boneyard LA is the name, and soon.

With the effect that having those landmarks has had on FO3, I cant see anyone pulling away from that.

The hole would be the least of their worries.

Hydrogen is explosive, so live fire might make it go boom.

Maybe they could move Fallout to a different country? We finally get some backround on what happened to places like China or Canada. (Love canada)

Fallout is not fallout with it being in america...

Why zeppelins... why not Hot air balloons.
Even easier, get a big sack... burn something at the bottom of the sack..... Ooooo it floats...
AND IT DOESNT BLOW UP!!!!

For 3 reasons.

1. Zepplins can go a longer distance than any Hot Air Ballon

2. Zepplins can fly higher than any Hot Air Balloon can.

3. Zepplins have large Gondolla's and you can move around in them Alot easier.

Hot air isnt an efficent replacement as the last poster said - Hydrogen is a heck of a lot lighter than hot air. The only really viable replacement even in the modern world is Helium (Which is what the Hindenberg was designed for originaly, but was changed back to Hydrogen for economical reasons), which doesnt blow up. However, helium costs a fortune to make in the real world, and is a lot harder to make (which is the key problem in the fallout world).

I could imagine Wastelanders building simple balloons or zeppelins, but remember that the BOS has Vertibird plans (if this is considered canon), so theres probably no need for "primitive" pre-war-vehicles.

But in the past the BoS used Zepplins to travel to the east coast (They all crashed). And I dont recall the BoS having Vertibird plans, just the Enclave had plans and used them. And its the wasteland, I think that wastelanders would just walk or something they probably would even think of a Zepplin or a Hot Air Ballon.

The BoS keep killing off the Enclave... Why have they not as yet captured a bloody Vertibird?

Yes you shot down my hot air balloon on points i never ever held it up on...

I'm amazed that neither the Enclave nor the BOS, havn't already taken possession of the T2V SeaStar's on the USS Oriskany(Rivet City).
