Cannot build industrial water purifier

Post » Mon Jan 25, 2016 3:24 am

Hi all,

In my second play through I thought I'd spend more time on settlements. Everything's going quite well so far but I'm having some difficulty trying to build an industrial water purifier.

The requirements state that it requires 5 power, I've now built one small generator and two windmills for a total of nine power. The only other item I've built is the radio beacon which is drawing one power so I'm not sure what I'm missing, the requirement for the water purifier is still red.

Any help would be gratefully received, thanks.

Don't you have 7 power? 3 + 2 + 2? Should still be enough though. I would try building one larger generator. Less repairs if damaged.

Also, make certain they are all truly connected. I have made that mistake before.

I usually do 1 large generator, and 2 large purifiers. Repeat as needed! (had 10 going in sanctuary once)

Maybe it is a positioning issue when trying to build the Plant. It can be tricky building it in some locations or trying to get the maximum amount of them built.

The other thing is are missing any of the components for the building of it. I do not recall if you need a certain perk level to make it or not. It has been awhile since I played the game and in building up a community.

Try this:

- Build pylon or anything related to it

- Connect the Generators to them

- Now connect the pylon to the Purifier

I believe the medium generator is 5 and the small is 3.

Double check the connection.

Thanks all for the replies. I don't know what the problem is, I have connected everything together and run the route a few times to double check but I just cannot build it, since the requirement doesn't appear to be met it won't let me place it.

I've googled around and no one else seems to have this problem, so it's either a very specific bug or I'm being incredibly stupid. Regardless, thanks for trying to help out, I can still build the smaller one so it's not a show stopper by any means.

Whether or not you can build a purifier has nothing to do with how much power you have. The power is just to make it work once it's built.

If you can't build it there are three possible explanations:

1) You're missing some raw materials

a) if that's the case you'll see it grayed out in a box when you try to build. Like it'll say "Ceramics 4/5" meaning you need 5 but only have 4.

2) You lack a required Perk (I'm pretty sure you need Science 1 to build the biggest purifiers).

a) when you try to build it you should see boxes pop up showing you the required perks

3) You've encountered some bug I've never heard of before

a) if it's this I don't know how to help.

Ah, thanks very much. I had not noticed the perk requirement! Thanks for clearing it up, much appreciated.

I simply don't understand any of the settlement building stuff at all. like, making lights functional I can place a light anywhere but I cant attach a wire to it to make it work. when building defensives I can't assign npc to them every person I go up to it says they can't be assigned to whatever. I just don't get....

use the connectors (the ones that connect to walls; upward, downward, sideways) on walls, ceiling or floors. connect those to power. now. any lights connected to same wall, floor, ceiling should work! Keep in mind each connector has a "radius" so things connect to nearby panels will work, but a couple panels away may not.
that means building even more connectors to make large structures fully powered.

each device will use power, so 20 lights won't work off a small generator with only 3 power units..

also, named NPC's don't always have options to be assigned duties. use the "settler" type for the grunt work.

The wiring to the light is "implied". i.e. if you build a power pylon or conduit near a light, it is implied that a concealed wire connects it to the light. Same with conduits too. If two conduits are close enough to "see" each other, you don't need a wire between them. The latest beta patch also makes it free to run wires (i.e. no copper usage), which makes sense.

This I have not found to be true. All pylons, and conduits need to be connected.

Seems to me that if this were true, you would not need to run wires at all.

My experience is that anything with a little pointy part sticking up requires a power wire going to it in order for it to work. Things like laser turrets that require power will not work just because they are near a conduit or pylon. They require the wire going to them to work.

edit: this one is good- no frills quick and informative : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc5Q5gGfcjE

None of this has anything to do with the original posters problem, which was answered - and confirmed - a couple of posts before yours.

This is the correct response:-

A conduit has to be connected at one end to receive or send power, yes. But if you have two conduits that are close enough, you don't need a wire between them. E.g. P------c c-----T (P=power generator, c=conduit, T=turret). At least, that was what I found out in my Spectacle Island settlement. Maybe the beta patch added this feature? Because I also seem to remember that pre-patch, all electrical devices except lights had to be physically wired.

It should be a positioning or resource/skill issue...you can build a pump with no power...in fact, I have several in one of my settlements waiting for the day I get enough scrap to build the gennies.
