I cannot contain security breach in Broken Steel

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 1:10 pm

I am level 25 and I have finished the main quest and am on the last part of BS; playing on Normal difficulty.

My build:

Small Guns, Repair, Medicine, Science -- 100

Sneak -- 95
Speedch -- 86
Lockpick -- 85
Melee -- 72

Energy Weapons -- 43

Everything else is less than 30.

I have had no real problem blazing through the entire game with Assault Rifles, Combat Shotguns and Hunting Rifles. Now these Ghoul Reavers are just ridiculous; they tear through the Security Bots like butter then I am faced with multiple enemies and I can barely kill one before they tear me apart.

I tried sneaking past them once, but the third wave of 4-5 Reavers saw me; I might try that again but I am quickly losing interest.

Anyone have any suggestions that don't require spending too much time re-leveling or wandering the wastelands looking for a certain weapon? As I said before my interest in the game is just about gone, but I want to finish this before putting it away.

I hate Ghoul Reavers, as well. Only thing to do is to just lower the difficulty if you haven't yet. Perhaps try other weapons if you have access to more?

Reavers are by far the most annoying enemy added in Broken Steel. And they certainly are tough as hell to beat.

I would suggest a few things, one: try to cripple them in the legs. Reavers are much more manageable if you disable their ability to charge at you. A good weapon to use for this is the dart-gun (insta-cripple).

Two: lower the difficult to easy or even very easy. Nobody's going to think less of you or call you a cheater. Reavers are that overpowered and I have a mod installed to lower their hitpoints for this very reason.

Three: On that specific area (the presidential metro) try to keep the Reavers focused on the Sentry bots and away from yourself. Attempt to keep the sentry bots alive for as long as you can.

Is your explosive skill also under 30? Regardless, unless it's like 15 or whatever the starting stat is, I've found that bottlecap mines work wonders against Reavers. As Andronicus said, use the dart gun. As you're backing away, drop bottlecap mines in front of you. Usually two of these and the reaver gets splattered. Ugh. Yes, two of the most powerful explosives in the game and I need two of 'em, when just one bottlecap mine will take out an entire Enclave patrol. This method works pretty well for me.

The other method is being an unarmed specialist, and using paralyzing palm, which is fantastic, in that I can paralyze one reaver, put the beatdown on one of the others, and hopefully kill it before the first reaver wakes up.

Nothing wrong with turning down the difficulty, though it sounds like you want to exhaust all other possibilities being going this route.

Don't forget your chems!!!! Buffout, Jet/Ultra Jet, Med-X are all your little friends.

Best thing against reavers, ghoul mask and deathclaw gauntlet. Two hits and they are hamburger.

What I did was use the Chinese Stealth Armor, Ghoul Mask, and an Operation Anchorage Power Fist with infinite health jacked up to 1000 DAM per hit with hockey masks.

Launch a radioactive bomb at the creatures healed by radiation?

What could possibly go wrong?

Besides, its in a close quarters metro right? Mini-thermonuclear devices are made for that kind of thing.

I see no possible repercussions.

In all seriousness get to a safe distance (if there is one) and use the MIRV from VATS this is exactly what it was designed to do.
