Cannot select any perks

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 10:39 am

I have the level (16), I have the special (intelligence 6) yet I cannot select the perk, I believe the expert hacking perk.

I cannot select ANY perks even though I clearly have the requirements. The perk does NOT animate. The only options I have are "Previous Rank, "Next Rank, Close"

Furthermore, 3 of my perks are listed as minus perks (-4) Why is this?

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Definitely sounds weird. Are you sure you HAVE a perk point to spend? Normally when you see the Previous Rank, Next Rank and Close as the only options, you don't have a perk point to spend. It should display, like, "Choose(2)" if you had stored up two perk points, for example. As for the "minus", it may just be a display thing --- a dash, not a minus. So, Lockpicking-3 means you have three ranks in lockpicking, for example.

Only thing I can suggest would be to level up again and see if you get an option to "Choose (1)"... you don't have any mods that restrict your perk awards, by chance? I don't know if such a thing exists, but I know a lot of people like to slow down their advancement and might have modded in so you get a perk point every other level or something.

Hey, thanks Sorpaijen for your reply. I think I have it now from what you're telling me. I don't have any perk points to spend. I spent them all on training. How do I use the training perk? What's that for? That's my problem. Thanks so much!

Training perk? Do you mean raising a SPECIAL stat? That does count as spending a perk point. You can ~either~ raise a SPECIAL stat ~or~ you can select a perk under the main headers (like Lockpicking, Hacking, etc).

I was drinking milk and it shot out of my nose when I read that, yes training your SPECIAL counts as spending a point also you need to be a certain level to get rank 2 and 3 of each skill.

The "training" perk increases that SPECIAL stat by one, which makes the next perk down available (as well as whatever bonuses a single point of SPECIAL provides).
