Cannot Summon NPCs

While researching a problem with a CTD while a mod added companion followed me through a door to another cell, I noticed, that I am not able to summon NPCs. I can summon any kind of creature, but summoning a dremora lord, a golden saint, a dark seducer, or any human based thing results in a CTD. thanks for the help.

Have you Bossed your load order?

Also, I am suprised you are running such a long mod list without a bashed patch!

I believe it's Duke Patricks - Actors Can Miss Now, which you may be running an old version of it, and all you may need to do is update it.

Furyfish is right. There is a new version of DP's Actors Can Miss Now that prevents the infamous CTD with companions after you summon or enter a new cell with them. This in and of itself is a fantastic update, however, it is highly recommended that you supplement this with DP's Friendship Ring for Companion Detection, found here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21594


Just give the ring to all of your active companions via the touch spell, and the CTDs will stop. The mod basically makes DP's mods more compatible with those made by others (like companion mods.) Hopefully, this will end your dilemma. :thumbsup:

i'm currently using duke patrick's actors can miss now 3.0 and even when i deactivate the mod, the game still crashes when a companion is following me through an interior/interior or interior/exterior switch, as well as instant CTD when i summon an npc. and yes, i have bossed my load order. would a bashed patch fix the problem?

edit: i had no luck with the friendship ring

Hmm... Your load order looks off... Are you sure you BOSSed it correctly? Some of the plugins in your load order look in the wrong place to me.... Did you download and apply the latest master list? If not, download it here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516. It should be under the "updates" section in the downloads tab (August 8 2010). DP's mods need to be loaded in a certain way for them to work properly and they could be in conflict with the multitude of cluttered mods at the bottom of your order.

As for the bashed patch recommendation, I would follow through with it. Download and install the components for Wrye Bash: (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368) and read the readme that goes with it to understand its.... Awesomeness . Honestly, Bash is a misunderstood and underrated treasure in modding that can make your efforts much easier, especially with all the mods in your load order. It helps make the mods in any order to act cohesively.

Try doing these two things as well and post your results. Hope this helps.

edit. after changing my load order around, i.e. making sure duke patricks and deadly reflex load last, and rebuilding the bashed patch--the game still crashes when I try to summon an npc. :(

edit2. I found the culprit! it was LAME. moving it further up in the load order fixed the issue with NPC summons.

edit3. the companion follow crash is still here...this problem must be associated with another mod
