Cannot uninstall Oblivion

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:29 pm

As reported in his thread (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1115454-weird-problem-with-csoblivion/) I had a weird problem with OB and so decided to unistall it. However, since all .bsa files (and I suspect other files too, which I can't recognise) had been mysteriously deleted, every time I tried to unistall OB I get a warning saying "Error Loading C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\PROFES~1\RunTime\11\00\Intel32\Ctor.dll The specified module could not be found"

So I figured the only way to remove OB was to delete the C:/Program Files/Bethesda/Oblivion folder and remove the save games from Documents/My Games. Now I have the weird problem that if I insert the OB disk, I get the "play" and "uninstall" options, but if I click the former I'm told to re-install OB, and if I click the latter it says it can't find the uninstall program and that I should use the setup.exe file from OB's installation disk to unistall it. At the moment, I have the Italian GOTY edition, but I would like to switch to the Steam Deluxe Edition, is it safe to do so, or will it screw everything up even more?

I suggest that you make sure Oblivion is completely uninstalled before attempting to install the Steam Deluxe Edition. As stated simply double-click the Setup.exe on the Oblivion disc. To do this, simply double-click on the My Computer icon and find the optical drive in which the Oblivion disc is located. Right-click on the icon, and select either Open or Explore. Navigate the disc's directory for the setup.exe file and double-click it.

Since you have already manually deleted the files, chances are you need to remove its entries fron the registry.

there is a guide in the pinned faq http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/561101-unofficial-technical-faq/page__p__8103714&#entry8103714

Thank you so much guys, you've been awesome! I did the setup.exe thing (I knew it was something to do with "exploring" the CD!) and it uninstalled perfectly. I then did the register thing too, although only Shivering Isles showed up. In any case I've checked everything and there are no more traces of OB on my PC :) I'll install the Steam version then. Thanks again, I don't know how to pay you back. :cookie:
