So, I no longer can assign Cait or Preston in settlements. I cant give them any order at all in build mode. I am playing on PC and have used console commands to raise there affinity to max, done there quests and chat lines. Is there a solution other then to restart?... again

I don't think you can after a certain point as they're tied to quests

Giving this a bump. I'm having the same issue with the same two companions but now Macready is apparently bugged to. When I dismissed him back to Sanctuary I hadn't had any changes to his affinity or started his personal quest so I don't think that is the problem.

It's starting to get really annoying as I can't assign them to beds and happiness is plummeting.

I have a few companions/followers just standing around doing nothing, in workshop mode I am unable to command or assign. I don't know if this is what was intended as they are not settlers but it seems a shame.
