I CANT bring myself to finish the game...

Post » Sat Dec 19, 2015 6:38 pm

Anyone else having this issue.

I have 3 characters and playthroughs. I play till I beat the side quests for the factions and get the the point of no return and explore and build settlements.

By the time I get there I am level 40-50 and way overpowered and nothing is challenging. Maybe I don't continue with the main quest because I don't want the game to be over... I dont know what it is.

Am I alone in doing this?

I hate completing the main quest series also...

Spoiler

For me it's not wanting to kill Desdemona or destroy the Railroad, or destroy the Institute. I don't really give 2 snits about the Brotherhood, but I'm sure there are those who do so I imagine the sentiment might be similar for those folks. I just don't understand why destroying the Railroad and leading the Institute couldn't peacefully coexist, I really hate the all or nothing thing here with the factions, since nothing in life is all or nothing.

/sigh

The game doesn't end after the main questline is completed. New quests appear.

Don't finish it, you will regret it, I kinda did regret it. Save that final for when you think you are fully satisfied with the game.

I am in a similar-ish situation. I was doing side quests for BoS though and without warning was given a quest to kil Railroad, so now I can not complete all their side quests. I am considering starting over because of this and at the same time increasing the difficulty to Survival because yeah, pretty much everything is a joke at this point.

I was level 49 and I had teamed up with the institute. I had a full arsenal of fully upgraded guns and I was ready to assault the Prydwyn and the hangar. It was easily the most challenging fight I've been in, and that's coming from having the same experience as you up until that moment. The sheer amount of enemies, the traps, the vertibirds, there was just so many people shooting at me.

If any of your characters have sided with the institute, I would recommend completing the MQ for the challenge, alone.

Thats why I use a mod which reduce xp gain and I suggest you do the same.

It's a problem with every bethesda game that when you don't focus the main quest only, you become overexperienced and overpowered very fast.

Like it would be very hard to put a slider to xp gain somewhere in the options of the game...

I've 150+ hours in on my first playthrough, Level 71 (ish, I'll have to check) I'll eventually finish the game, but I'm in no hurry.

I always live in fear of missing quests or valuable Items if I go past a certain point in the main story line. Those damn bethesda/bioware/black isle games..

Yes. I am at a point where I did a quest to make the BOS my enemy, but I haven't destroyed them yet. Everywhere I go, there is a small chance of a vertibird appearing out of nowhere and coming to my location to harass me. They even attacked me when I was at my settlements fooling around, so I'm really enjoying it. I sided with the Institute so sometimes the synths will teleport to me and help me fight.

This would help but I am on Xbox 1 :( I wish I had the $ for a new PC. I would use this mod on every playthrough.

THIS! I don't want to miss anything.

I also think not completing the main quest gives me something to look forward to and pace myself. After all it will be 8 months probably for the first substantial dlc and 3-4 years before the next TES game

I'll have to try that mod on my 2nd play through. The problem with becoming overleveled is, you need the extra points in the Int stat to let you get the good hacking & building perks. But in upping your Int, you also up your xp gain.

In my case fallout nv plays an unfortunate role... After gearing up and practically becoming a half-god that killed every legion member he found ,my character finally faced the main boss (lanius?)... I expected an epic fight, but accidentally I talked him out of that. Just like "Yeah, guess you're right whatever the end" Most disappointing game ending ever.

I really wish they had put in one of those features in the game where when you complete story mode you were given the option to rest the entire game and start back at the beginning with nothing but your experience Level.

That would of have been really cool.

Finish the game?

I am level 60 and I barely started the main quest... While I did reach Diamond City, I did not speak with Nick Valentine yet.

What's the main objective again....? Oh yeah, I am supposed to plant mutfruits across the wasteland.

You're not alone, but I don't think you in the majority. I've completed it 3x so far, all in the 60+ region. Yes, you're OP by 50+, but, then again, you've leveled up to 50+, isn't the point to be a bit OP? You still can't take on multiple assaultrons or Behemoths or Mirelurk Queens or Legendary Chameleon anything all by yourself without some challenge.

I suppose if you're an FPS professional, it's easier, but I'm not, so I still find my challenges. May last one, I took on a Legendary (I think he was) Behemoth at level 61 with dogmeat, a an assault shotgun (not extremely tricked, just improved) and some frag grenades. It was fun!

Maybe, since I don't us PA, like, ever, I'm handicapping myself.

Spoiler
Best possible ending is with the Minute men and not killing the BoS or the Railroad for the most missions after the game ends.

I'm currently lvl 71 and doing the same thing. Keep saying I'm going to go to the institute (been there the first time only) to progress the story, but wind up doing more sidequests. The reason is I just want to acquire all the specific perks I planned on, before the game ends on me.

Nope, you are not alone in this. With tons of games I'll do a speed run first time through then a "pro" run the second and third times through. With this one I played my original first character up till lvl. 30 or so before starting my pro run with the character im using now.

While I know this is not a fix and we shouldn't have to do it as some will claim, will say it so hopefully the Original Poster can have fun again.

How about not using the best weapons and armour? How about debuffing yourself so the game is not so easy? What difficulty level are you playing? If not at max level how about increasing the difficulty level? I know for me, sometimes it's not an option because instead of the game becoming harder, it's just the enemies are becoming bullet sponges, and to me that is not making the game harder, but more tedious and less fun. Maybe for the Original Poster that would not be a problem.

How about limiting yourself to 2 or 3 weapons, 1 pistol, 1 rifle and a melee weapon. For your guns only have a handful of bullets. Say 200 rounds or what ever you would really cary in real life. How many stim pacs are you carrying? Maybe 10 or 5 the most.

If the game is so easy, how about starting a Dead is Dead now. I don't mean start over, but starting Now, play and if you die, game over. If you die once, the game is not easy then is it?

Other than that, I am not sure, how to make the game more fun or difficult with what we have on the Xbox One for now.
