Cant buy land in falkreath cause I killed Helvard

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 12:29 am

I cant buy land in falkreath cause of the dark brotherhood contract kill of halvard. Is this bug going to be fixed or do I have to start all over. If so I'm going to be pissed! I've had to start the game over 4 times now cause of stupid stuff like this. I wish they would have this stuff fixed right away. Just like I'm stuck with the stones of Barenziah cause I had all 24 before I talked to vex. I'm usin the xbox 360 version of the game.

He has a different steward. An elf woman. Look for her in the long house and she'll sell you the land.

We won't know if Beth will ever give us a patch for this, as the bug has been around previous to Hearthfire.

The only way I fixed this myself is to side with the Stormcloaks. Once you liberate Falkreath, the Jarl and steward will be replaced by Denegir and his old maid steward. You can either regain the title of thane (which isn't necessary to purchase the plot) or you can gain his favor and purchase the plot from his steward. I had lost my Thaneship even though I killed Siggier's housecarl in secret for the DB quest. I was pissed since I did that a LONG time ago.

There are a number of quests that block the Jarl from offering his quests to make you housecarl.

This happened to me. Check you don't have one of these quests open.

Mine was getting the divine charm for the chap in Windhelm

Well talking to her repeatedly will get you nothing if you do not go find some quests to do, or finish some you already have. You have to change something if the Jarl's steward is not offering you something to buy. The quest you might not have done could have nothing to do with Falkreath, it could just be a fetch quest or go kill this quest that you got else where. If not ask around Falkreath and see if there is something you can do that you missed.

If you still get nothing for your trouble, if you have not done the civil war questline you could do it as a Stormcloak and be made Thane under a different Jarl.

I have done all the misc quests and all the ones required to get the plot of land and it still does'nt work. Trouble is i have already done the civil war questline so looks like i'm pretty stuffed unless they release a patch.

I have the same problem as well... I gave up on waiting for the DLC to release on PS3, so I started all over on the xbox, and now I can't buy the Falkreath plot of land because of the Dark Brotherhood mission : / *sigh*... I really wanted that land too... I don't understand how killing someone that has nothing to do with selling you the plot of land can also prevent you from doing it... This continued series of let-downs is really making me lose faith in Bethesda...

I had this problem in Dawnstar, I just went to the local inn and did a bounty quest. Once I got the reward off the steward (I was already thane and stuff) she let me buy land!

I know this is an utterly unhelpful post, but...

Is this a glitch, or is it a consequence of an in-game action? And if the latter - that's what a lot of people were after, right?

I killed halvard and i was able to buy the land. Are you sure that you do not have any other rare gift type of quests. I know i had a rare gift quest already opened. I had to complete it in order to get the quests from the jarl and get the option to buy the land.

Restart the Xbox and MAKE SURE the Hearthfire content loads... I made the same mistake of not logging out and making me think it was glitch.

I had a similar problem with Falkreath but after a lot of head scratching (and time) I found there were a couple of very simple tasks which could be done within the Hold which counted as helping the locals (not sure if this counts as a spoiler mods) this may kick the quest into life it did for me.

I suppose at least it's a bug that makes sense, logically. If I was a jarl, and some obnoxious adventurer whacked my steward, I probably wouldn't want him around anymore.

That guy Helvard isn't a steward he is a Housecarl the steward is the High Elf lass Nenya. As for me I killed him and never had a single issue.

Same here, it's Nenya that sells the land. Maybe they fixed it in the PC release, because as soon as I installed Hearthfire and loaded up my game a courier gave me a letter from the Jarl of Falkreath. I went to see him and dealt with some bandits that he asked me to take care of, then bought land from Nenya. I was not a thane at the time, and had never done a 'rare gifts' quest for him (in fact I had an unfinished 'rare gifts' quest from Aldis active at the time). I'd barely spoken to the Jarl previously, but I was some way through the DB questline. Still bought land from Nenya without issue. So that makes me wonder if it got fixed for the PC release, as I am aware that a lot of people playing on xbox had trouble getting that land for various reasons.

Indeed. I know when the xbox version first came out some people were having issues buying the land if they were already thanes I haven't had this issue on my pc or xbox versions but perhaps that is your problem also.

Hi,

Just tested this and it worked... if you're on pc, open console and target the jarl to retrieve its id, the use command player.getrelationshiprank [jarlID] to look at the value... I got -2 (foe).

Then you can set relation to a positive value with player.setrelationshiprank [jarlID] [newvalue up to 4].

Doing so (i've set it at 4) will allow Nenya (or the current steward) to sell you the property.
