Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:48 am

I have not played fallout 3 for a year. There was a new FOMM i installed. but when i went to install some mods i could not find the Menu,Meshes, and Textures folders. i unstalled the new FOMM and they still where not there. so i Reinstalled the game and there still not there. i deleted the entire folder and installed FO3 and there not there? is there some new way we install mods now?

well i fond them but there in a BSA file (.bsa). so now how do i get into them so i can change meshes and textures....

hear is my oblivion data folder. and this is how i remember fallout looking like.

I haven't noticed much change personally about how mods are installed

FOMM does have BSA Tools built-in. The version I'm using ATM (0.13.20) has them in the "tools" dropdown list. the one you sound like you want is the "BSA Browser"

You don't have to bother with that, just use the folders that come with the mod. They'll create new Textures, Meshes etc. folders if they need them. With the exception of textures, the game will look in those folders first for any new files. With textures, all you need to do is toggle the archive invalidation in FOMM.

So just copy those folders over to your Data folder, then use the archive invalidation toggle in FOMM.

ok. i moved the 2 main zip folders TYPE3_BODY_V3dot5-4280 and TYPE3_V2_TEXTURE_pack-4280 into the data folder opened FOMM toggled Invalidation. clicked package manager, add FOMod selected the mods one by one terned them on so they had a blue check mark in them. closed the package manager then launch FOSE and nothing.

If you moved the contents of the zip folders yourself, then FOMM has nothing to do with it. FOMM is only used in that case to toggle the "Archive Invalidation" which is a fancy way of saying that FOMM tells the game to use the loose files in the textures folder instead of the pre-packed ones in the Textures.BSA file.

FOMM will only get involved in installing resources (textures, meshes, sounds, menu XML files, etc.) if you are installing with a FOMOD file. One you downloaded or created yourself.

Any time you do a manual install (open a zip or rar archive and move the files into the DATA directory) it's your responsibility to make sure you are moving the files correctly. Generally this involves just making sure you are copying the Meshes, Textures, Sounds, Menus, Music directories into the DATA directory itself so the paths are correct. Sometimes this can involve custom folders for the mod, and sometimes it can require choosing from several options and only installing one.

Make sure you read the readme and know what is required to be installed, and whether there are any specific requirements.

I use a dummy folder in my FO3/ folder to extract mods into first, before putting them directly into the /data folder. That way I can easily check the paths first before merging the various folders in /data

The dummy in simply named '/AAA' so that it sits at the top :read:

Then, before placement, copy the entire /data folder and rename it /data_og (original game), or whatever so that when you screw it up the first few times -I certainly did at least  , you can just delete the /data folder and replace it with the original /data again, saving you the trouble of relentlessly having to re-install the entire game. :banghead:

You just move the folder back in place :)

This is good when trying pour different combo's of mods and you're not sure yet how they'll play together. I had eight different /data folders at one time :ahhh: when I was trying to get a mod order running stable..

Hope this is helpful, or at least isn't annoying :)

Well, that is weird, since most of the mods I use aren't fomod enabled.. -I like installing things manually, gives me a false sense of security and control :P

It's not that it has a problem with other archives, it's just not designed to deal with them. You don't expect your coffee brewer to make your toast for you do you? Not many people use FOMODs so for the most part you're going to have to do everything manually.
