Cant install - crc error - menuvoices.bsa

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 4:20 am

I give up on installing this game. I have played it before when I was running Vista/32bit on my lappie two years ago. Now I'm running 7/64bit and I cant install it. I get this msg:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data\Fallout - MenuVoices.bsa doesn't match the file in setup's.cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor."

I copied the files to my hdd and made an image from here. There were no probs in copying the files, but I got the same error msg when I tried to install the game from this. So I guess it's software-related. A search on google reveals loads of ppl having the same issue with this file, so...

Any solution? ^^ I havent found any so far...

A CRC Checksum is a problem with the files/source medium. Basically the setup file checks the source files (in this .bsa files) to verify their integrity and in your case one of the files doesn't pass the checksum verification.

A direct copy doesn't always allow proper installation. It only really works when you have a damaged disc but no direct damage to the data. A direct copy has a larger buffer and is less prone to stalling. If the files are damaged/corrupted then its not going to help.

***

Check your CD/DVD for scratches. You can try refinishing the disc to minimize read errors, but most likely the disc needs to be replaced.

Also don't install the Program Files directory. This directory has limited access rights which may cause other issues.

Well. It went smooth on my other laptop running vista/32bit. But this laptop's video card aint the top notch for this game so this is not an option. Also. I doubt you haven't read my previous message as I stated other people was having the same issue with the exact same file from the 5 gig sized cab file. :)

Google -> "menuvoices.bsa crc" etc. - similar strings will reveal more posts about this issue..

It's late night here, but I will make an image of the disc on the other lappie this weekend and copy it to my primary lappie as the culprit COULD be a worn-out dvd drive...
