I cant play crysis 2 (RAM)

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 2:52 am

who the hell even uses a 450w for gaming these days
My PSU is 150W and I'm playing this game fine.

I use a 550W....but 450w are far enough. I metered the amount of w my PC uses while playing C2, and it barely reached 310w.......in a case of emergency you can even play it with a 400w....depends on your hardware.

Upgrade your CPU. I think that may be your problem. 4gb ram is plenty.

DDR2, hmm..., DDR3 would be better.
ya but DDR3 cost more i don't have the money to spend.

It should work just fine, even with DDR 1 it should work fine, and his proc is not that old since its a rebranded Phenom 1.I think it has to do with his version of win 64 bit.I have Athlon II X2 although clocked at 3.6.and it works fine.

On the side note which cpu do you have.Standard one or the Energy Efficient? is yours model number 235e or 215?

Naw, I'm also using Win7 64bit.....never encountered a problem so far. (Except promo-stuff and so on, which has nothing to do with the OS)

i had this problem as you can see from my video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3gZNmJuBZE but i managed to fix it when i bought a new case and psu, i now have a 700w psu and have no problems however i still think it had to do with the graphics card not fitting properly into the pci-e slot make sure the card is securely in the slot, even if you think it is double check anyway.

Regarding pci-e slot.Either it works or it doesnt there is no midle option. And yes PSU can cause that problems.

It's not about working fine or not, it's about performance. If you have Win XP then you best choice will be DDR2, if you have Win7 then bet option is DD3 because you can get few % more performance than using DDR2 on Win7.

ok I thought about it and I am going to return this cheap power source for a 600W not so cheap power source and see how it works.

Don't look at PSU price or even how much Watt it have, look at company which is making PSU and what is said in specification. Your system will be fine with 450-500W IF your PSU will be good quality. And frankly if you are not overclocking anything good quality 450W PSU should be ok.
What is still bugging me is your CPU which actually can hold back your graphic card and stead of using full power of that 550Ti you get half of it o.O

What was your earlier graphic card?

I've read thru all the responses and noone has suggested to unplug and replug all the power connections to insure a proper connection. Sometimes the individual connections inside the plug will back out so check that as well.. Although I agree that you need a better psu, it could possibly only be a loose connection limiting the power draw needed under load.

Yes I did check the pci-e slot it is in there the right way. After reading all the responses I am going to change to a 600W power source.
Thanks for the video.

Did you clean your old drivers? If you had an ATi card before it could explain a lot of things.

Then you probably have left over drivers and they are conflicting with each other.
Use driver sweeper in safe mode to clean everything ATi/AMD and nvidia to be safe and reinstall the nvidia drivers.

Ok so summing up...

1. Unplug/plug in all power connectors, and do same with card and also with ram.
2. Clean your system out of all drivers using any cleaning tool for drivers, and install new fresh drivers.
3. Test your rig with good quality 450W PSU, the point is to test and verify is your PSU causing black screen during game.
4. If you have 2gb of ram, get at least one more 1gb max. 2gb.
5. Your CPU is to slow for 550Ti, and i had impact on game,
6. Sad but true... your new card can be damaged, thats nothing new but happens sometimes and using warranty to replace is needed.

I understand but I am going to try to buy a new power supply that is 600W and if that doesn't work I am going to try what you are saying and if that doesn't work i am going to sell my computer to buy one that is better suited for my graphics card.
If i did buy a new computer what motherboard would you suggest I buy.

Don't buy 600W, you don't need that, you need GOOD QUALITY 450-500W (max) PSU. I always go for PSUs from Corsair, they are very good, have 5 years warranty and are certified.
Something like this will http://www.corsair.com/power-supplies/non-modular-psus/enthusiast-series-1/vx450w.html. Why not 600W? Because first most important thing is QUALITY and then how much Watt PSU has, and for your craphic card 450-500W is enught, if PSU will be good.

On a side note, you can try take your graphic card to some friend and test it on his PC, if you get problem then you will be sure that your 550Ti is damaged.

You should also first try what WarDice told you (check at a friend).
No point in spending 420$ on a new rig, if you got a defect graphics card.

I just bought a HD6850 Toxic and it was broken out of the box, replaced it and everything works.

@jjoffer
Dude stop with that 600W PSU, you don't need that, i have HD5870 Vapor-x and whole system on OC and my 650W Corsair PSU have plenty of power left.

450-500W its MAX for your system, of if PSU will be good quality, this is most important thing.

Test your 550Ti on another PC..
Test your PC with good PSU it need to be god quality PSU not PSU with a lot watt
Then if card is good, and your PSU is not causing problems think about buying new PC, and also what you listed is still crap :p

I wasnt gonna be the first to say it, but yeah it kinda is.

If you cant afford something better, save up, and buy something thats worth the money.

Yeah, youre right, i just upgraded.
Went for a i5 760, ASUS P7P55D PRO, 8GB DDR3 Corsair XMS3, and the graph card i mentioned.
Didnt set me back that much (as it sounds), truth be told the old PC was 5 years so had to ditch it.
