Cant remove quest items from inventory after finishing quest

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 4:11 am

So after playing the game a few days, Iv come across a glitch that wont allow me to remove quest items from my inventory after the quest has been completed.
For example I cannot remove the elder scroll from my inventroy after finishing the main quest, this grows to be a problem because it weighs 20lbs.
Other items include The left eye of falmer from the theives guild quest, although I can remove the Right eye of Falmer.
There are also about 3 different books I cant remove as well. Is there already a fix out for this maybe? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On a similar note, the Ruby Dragon Claw does the same thing. I've finished the location that needs it, there is nothing in my journal about someone wanting it back and it's unremovable.

I've built up quite a collection of items that simply cannot be removed now, and I'm probably losing around 40lb of carryweight on useless quest items that I can't put in my house/sell/drop. Very frustrating.

This follow-up is a bit late, but even though quest items show a weight, it's apparently not held against you. Go find a convenient container somewhere and stash everything that you can. Your final weight should be zero.

LOL. THis is amazing.

It just hit me this is exactly the sort of 'feature' we had in the original Fallout which, as I recall, was coded
by Bethesda.

THis was fixed by modders some months post release.

Until then, we have to live with it. I too have a growing collection of broken quest crap.

If your upset overly much about the weight penalty of such items I offer this temp fix until it can be fixed by the community:

get your calculator out and add up the items in question weight values. Write it down on paper.

open console
enter this
player.modav carryweight (insert the value you wrote down on paper here)
example:
player.modav carryweight 10

note, the way modav works is thus:
if your carryweight is say, 300 and you enter modav.carryweight 10
your new carryweight would be 310
if you want to lower your value you enter a negative number.; example modav carryweight -10

if you use setav the variable does not stick across savegames and setav is not additive it is a flat value.

I've not noticed any impact on the silly steam awards here.

So, that would 'fix' the consequence of Bethesdas system .
I'll just repeat, THIS WAS A FEATURE FROM FALLOUT. Nothing new here. Sad to say.

Laughs.

EDIT. In the example above I do not consider any perks affecting that system. IN fact, not sure
how perks will affect any tweaking. Bottom line is it will work.

You can remove items in your inventory via the console. I've done it with Briar Hearts.

Save your game then
Open console `

Type
help "item name" 4

You will get a list of item ID names

Next type
player.removeitem ITEMID 1

now save your game, exit to desktop, and restart so that you will be able to get achievements.

Just so you know, you can sell the elder scroll quest item to the librarian in the College of Winterhold. This removes it from your inventory.
