I cant start the dark brotherhood questline : IV

Hello

I recently finished the fighters guild quest so i decided to do the dark brotherhood quesline.

I figured out how to do it as well as who I should kill. However, every time i kill one of the NPC's nothing happens: I don't the notification and when I go to sleep nothing happens. I even followed a walk through and kill the person they told me to kill and nothing happened.

Please help I really want to play this questline i heard its amazing

Dumb question, but did you murder the NPC or just kill them in a fight?

And, are you sleeping in a bed in a house or building?

If your on the PC, you can use the console to force this to start

setstage 000224EB 10 will allow you to continue the quest as normal.
