[RELz] Canteen

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:55 pm

Love the mod.

The one "problem" that I have with it, has to do with the PackRat perk -- as once you take that, the canteen actually becomes less weight per drink efficient than water bottles, rather than staying more.

...of course, I'm not sure what the best way to handle that problem is - just throwing out there (since many of my characters work towards PackRat, making the canteen of limited use to them).

Still, great work!

I'll have to look into that, thanks for the heads up. (and I thought I was done ;)

"You have learned the value of careful packing. Items with a weight of 2 or less weigh half as much for you."

If this is true of the perk then...the full canteen weighs 5.5 an equal amount of water bottles weigh 10.0 with the perk the water bottles would weigh 5.0 so the canteen only weighs .50 more...I don't see an issue.
also a canteen with 3 uses weighs 2.0, so I would think the perk would apply to it when its at or under that weight.
(hopefully that won't cause some sort of wonkey intergalictic rip in the fabric of space time)

sorry for the multiple edits but I haven't slept for a while and my posts are getting incoherent ;)

I have a fully scripted fomod install of Canteen v2 nearly ready that will allow the user to select the canteen skin and either the default or no healing effects esp during install...but its been brought to my attention that I have a texture bug, seems that if using small or medium textures the pipboy icon and the canteen texture itself are screwed up, on large setting they are fine, being clueless with textures I'm sure I screwed them up somehow...DOH! anyway if anyone knows how I can fix them I'd appreciate the help, I suffer from a bit of modders OCD and I really want to get the mod to a "what I consider" done point so I can actually play the game myself, Ha...like thats gonna happen...

So far I've been unable to find a solution for the texture bug, bottom line is the mod is fine as long as you use large texture settings in your display options, most people do as the medium and small settings are only needed for older systems or smaller systems that prolly can't play the game well anyway...if I run across a solution I'll fix it otherwise don't worry about it and use the large settings, if you can't because of hardware restrictions I'm sorry.

Well, here's an interesting issue.

I use medium texture sizes... and haven't noticed any kind of a glitch at all. O.o

Perhaps I'm just doing it wrong. -_-';

I feel so left out, now.

Ha ha, I know a few others who use medium and don't have an issue, so who knows could be something else causing the problem, just thought I'd make light of it so users would know.

Haha! Indeed...

So! Shad... you mentioned something about -fish-?

Now I am quite interested... what sort of 'fishy' business are you up to, hmm?

Well...have you noticed that the lake seems to be missing something?
I made a nice fish mod for Oblivion, unfortunately it used the slaughterfish skeleton.nif and swimming animations for the new models and I obviously can't port those to NV...but I'm sure that in time I can find someone to make me new ones.

Strangely I can't recreate this bug that some have reported with medium textures, perhaps it has something to do with the new patch? who knows, any way I'm movin' on... the new fomod will be uploaded soon for those that like to use FOMM.

Can you make a version there the "Pre Ordered Classic Pack (canteen)" works like this, and not adding any more canteens to the game at all?

Sorry, but no...if you check at New Vegas nexus there are at least two other mods that already do that.

I have uploaded a new scripted fomod that allows the user to select canteen skin and optional esp during install, also revised the readme and uploaded a photo of the fomod installer.

Cheers

ps..I forgot to update the readme to reflect fomod install instructions, course if you use FOMM then you already know.

I'm pretty sure that fish are canonically extinct (or at least very rare) in the Fallout universe. There's a conversation with one of the companions (Cass, I believe) that hints strongly at that, anyways - something along the lines of her referencing fish and the player being able to ask 'do you even know what fish are?' and she says something like 'they were kind of link underwater birds'. Something like that, anyways. The player's question wouldn't make much sense if fish weren't extinct, anyway.

Thanks for that tidbit it's very interesting, I honestly don't know much about Fallout lore and canon as I'm only familiar with FO3, I'm sure you a likely correct but I bet the average player would love a lake full of fish ;)

Yeah, but it might be a bit odd if you're standing right next to a lake full of fish when you ask Cass if she knows what fish are (Cass being a New Vegas companion and this dialogue being in New Vegas, not one of the previous games, none of which referenced fish as far as I know).

True, but I'm not a canon purist so I don't care, mods of any type are all about choice ;)

Actually, there are fish already in the game. I was exploring the lake near Hoover Dam the other day and found quite a few fish swimming around near the bottom - albeit low poly with low res textures.

BTW, excellent mod shad44! :)

I have uploaded a newly updated file. This fomod ready archive contains all the alternate esp's and textures and can be used by both FOMM and Non FOMM users.
Menu update issue resolved thanks to exoromeo.
I have checked the scripts and tested the file, hopefully there are no issues, sorry for having to update again, this will likely be the last time.

Canteen has been updated to version 5
Never say modders don't listen to the users ;)
A few note worthy changes so please see the description (1st post) or readme for details.
There have been some major changes so I have left v4 up for those that might prefer it.

Post here if you find any glaring bugs.

Enjoy, and please endorse.

Before someone ask's "no" the collectible canteens do not convey any special effects, why would they? they are simply canteens meant to supply water to the user not magic items. Of course they make excellent decorations on a shelf!
LOL
