Description
=====================================
This (is) was my first Fallout mod. It adds several NPC guards on watch towers to Canterbury Commons. Why? I found that with "MMM-increased spawn", a band of feral ghouls, rad scorpions, and death claws would habitually breeze through the town each night and wipe out any Canterbury Commons NPCs not resting in an interior cell (which is about...3 NPCs in total). It's annoying enough that Canterbury Commons has the population of 6 people or so and calls itself a "trading hub" (really? This is a quick fix to the Canterbury Commons depopulation problem.
There are 2 plugins, use one, not both:
1) CanterburyCommonsGuards.esp uses vanilla game resources. The guards are dressed in combat armour.
2) CanterburyCommonsGuards - DTO.esp dresses the guards in Antistar's fantastic "Dragonskin Tactical Outfits" (DTO). You NEED to download and install his mod (http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10183). You do NOT need the DTO bonus pack.
CHOOSE ONE OF THE PLUGINS, DO NOT USE BOTH AT THE SAME TIME.
Oh, I also boosted the level of Dominic and Machete so they don't go on patrol at night and never come back alive.
Q: Where are the guards?
The guards are on top of watch towers where they cannot be reached by melee attackers (like feral ghouls, rad scoprions, and death claws....). The locations of the watch towers are based on my observation of the 'monster spawn routes' into town. 2 watch towers overlook the west and southwest side of the bazaar. 2 more watch towers overlook the trail on the north side of town where the town was subject to nightly invasion by giant rad scorpions for those using MMM Increased spawn. The last watch tower is beside the brahmin pen on the northwest side of the town. A sixth guard stands watch by the entrance of the town hall. There are also 2 'off-duty' caravan guards hanging out near the Cup-A-Joe building.
Q: Will you add more stuff, like _fill_in_the_blank_?
Probably not, I am trying to keep this simple. If you want more 'action' you can always download my "Canterbury Commons Interiors" mod (http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11046), which is fully compatible with this mod. Put this mod -before- Canterbury Commons Interiors in your load order.
Q: Why don't you just include these changes with "Canterbury Commons Interiors"?
CCI deals with interior spaces. This mod deals with Wasteland spaces. I can do whatever I want in my own interior spaces. I have to be very, very, very careful when editing or adding things to Wasteland spaces in order to prevent incompatibility issues with other mods.
Load order:
If you are using my "Canterbury Commons Interiors" mod, load it after this mod. If you are using the alternative DTO plugin of this mod, load it after the DTO mod.
Update 1.3
===========
- changed weapons for Dominic and Machete to match their skills.
- Dominic and Machete are now also wearing Dragonskins if using the DTO plugin.
Update 1.2
===========
I've removed the turrets placed in v1.1. In their place I've set up watch towers with snipers and riflemen.
Install or Update
=================
Unrar the file into your \Fallout 3\data directory. Start Fallout 3 Launcher or Fallout Mod Manager and activate "CanterburyCommonsGuards.esp" or "CanterburyCommonsGuards - DTO.esp"
It is recommended that you have a savegame in a location away from Canterbury Commons before installing or updating this mod.
