"Canvas the castle" quest question

Post » Tue Jan 26, 2010 9:20 am

I found the painting supplies in Chanels room. And I found the interesting painting in the west tower. But I can't figure out what to do next. If any one can help it would be appreciated.

Edit: as this is not the spoiler section I shouldn′t say more (or even this)

I tried that but it won't let me discuss it. So I'm assuming I need to find more evidence.

Sorry I'm new here. I didn't know where I was supposed to post questions.

Since this was moved...

You are missing another clue. A lot of people miss it. Here's a blatant hint. Chanel is clumsy. She spills paint. Sometimes in the dining hall.... say :)

You need one more piece of evidence. Go to the dining area and check out the rug on the floor.

Ultimately, maybe this http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Canvas_the_Castle might help?

My last entry pretty much says I need to continue to look for clues. Thank you :) And thanks to everyone for the help this quest was really bugging me. I will go try it again.

I never found that last piece of evidence either until I read a quest walkthrough. But you've gotten all the tips you need in this topic, imo you didn't even need half the information you got here. So you should be able to finish the quest now without a walkthrough.

It's amazing how many threads about this quest have been created since the game was released. Funnily enough, it is one of the quests where Bethesda decided to hide the quest marker, so you'd have to actually think in order to solve the puzzle. Are people just that dumb or the quest is flawed?

I think the quest is somehow flawed. Yes, the piece of evidence is there, but it is very subtle. It turns up when you interrogate Chanel and she describes her actions in the night of the theft. Most people don't actually pay attention to the fact that she said she "spent some time in the courtyard of the castle taking star readings. Then she made her way to the dining area off of the Great Hall. Finally, she went to her quarters to sleep."

When I played that quest, I got focused on the "star readings" part (which obviously contradicts the information that it was raining that specific night) and forgot about the "dining area" part.

I feel the same way. I found that a simple light spell aids in searching the dining room.

Of course I knew the guilty person, just lacked the last piece of evidence for a proper accusation. The last bit being the proverbial "needle in a haystack".

The thing that always annoys me about this quest is that you have to do all the interviews before you're allowed to find any clues. So if you find the painter's stuff when you go to interview Chanel, it's not a clue if you haven't talked to Orgnolf or Bittneld yet, and you have to go back and find it again.

When done this way, I get grumpy. Otherwise I love the think-for-yourself quests, like Forgotten Chests of Pale Pass. My own baby

I don't know what it is but it seems I have two personalities when it comes to quests like these. I love Morrowind and the aspect of following directions because I loved reading all their dialogue but for some reason when I play Oblivion I act like a cocky fish out of water. I quickly accept quests and then follow the arrow and I get confused whenever it doesn't appear.

Just to stay completely on topic I would like to say that for some reason I always miss the paint supplies in her room rather.
