Capes, Cloaks, and the like?

Post » Tue Sep 06, 2011 10:39 pm

Any news on this? I've been busy, (I'm 16, have a full time job, and am working on my junior year of high school)

I know that chest and legs will be merged (which I couldn't care less about), but have we heard anything about capes/cloaks and the like?

I think it'd fit the setting. No one wants their nether regions frozen off while their trying to save the world.

I'm planning to be the stalwart warrior, and I think a cloak would look fantastic around my armor.

Example;

Doesn't that look bad-ass?

I would love for them to be included, but I'm pretty sure there won't be any cloth physics due to technical limitations. No cloth physics, no capes or cloaks.

I doubt it.
They'd rather just dangle names like Stormcloaks in front of us just to piss us off :swear:

P.S. wheres Alaksa?

As I see it if the Assassins Creed series can put capes in with no problems, surely Bethesda can too!

Off topic, but out of interest: how does being in school and having a full-time job work? Even if you're doing night-shifts that's, like, almost no sleep at all if you consider time needed for homework.

I was so used to the capes&cloaks mod for Oblivion, that I completely forgot they were not in the vanilla game :(

Watching this videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic6dKnv3WdU at 10.15 appears what Todd Howard calls A Dragon Priest.
I looked it really carefully and even if not absolutely stunning his cloak has a really good appearance and good physics.
Therefore I really don't understand why cloaks should not be in this game.

Well I am not so sure about that.

There is this mod for Fallout New Vegas: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40654

And that could be adapted as "Capes, Cloaks, and the like" maybe.

I would think something like that could be made for TESV:Skyrim, since it is already out there in Fallout New Vegas.

No cloth physics=no cloaks. Maybe if they actually had cloth physics, like any "blockbuster" 2011-2012 game SHOULD have, then you might get want you want. Sadly, it doesn't seem that cloth and hair physics are in Bethesda's radial interest in the slightest. It would probably be something they might consider putting in LAST if they had an extra $5-10,00 layin' around to waste on updating the engine and then another 5-8 months to implement it and work out the bugs.

I'm not a hardware specialist, time manager, or anything even remotely like that... but I can imagine it being somewhat like the above.

There's probably quite a large difference between animating one cape for one enemy creature and updating the physics engine to allow for dozens of types of cloth thingumabobs.

Maybe some armours come with capes instead of separate pieces of equipment. ;)

The Stormcloak soldier in the E3 demo is wearing a cloak of sorts, but it's only a texture, tucked into his belt.

Well I'm still hoping for their inclusion, even if we have no evidence for it. I suppose it could always be one of the things they are saving as a surprise.

By consoles you mean non-PC?

Because the link I provided shows it can be done on the PC in a supposed soon to be inferior game engine.

This reminds me of when i was in junior year and had a job. I worked hard but i didn't get along with the manager that did the schedule. I worked Friday nights, Saturday afternoons, and i was opening Sundays at like 5am. I think he was trying to get me to quit. :toughninja:

What I don't get is that cloth simulation is already in Havoc Behaviour, why not just include it in the game?

It should be easy to implement.

If there is anything in the game that uses those physics (draqes etc) it should be possible to mod capes and cloaks in.
