Capturing command posts?

What would capturing a command post do to help your team and what does the other team lose?

You gain a spawn point, they lose a spawn point. Kinda like a checkpoint I guess. Also it's a place where you change your class.

Command posts are there for a number of reasons, you can change your class and your weapons, it's also the spawn
point for your team (I think you can choose which one to spawn at) so over all the command posts are there to help
your team adapt to the task at hand. Taking enemy command posts limits there abillity to do the same.

And now you know!! (chorus) ~And knowing is half the battle~

Their are two types of command posts.

Supply and health. Supply provide ammo at them and the health provides a health boost to your team.

We also know that there are dedicated health and ammo Command Posts. I assume that means if there isn't a Medic or Soldier nearby and your team has that Command Post, you can go there to heal up/resupply.

Regardless, being able to change your class in the field is vital to your team's success, depending on the objectives and level strategy; having a forward Command Post is absolutely never a bad thing.

Operatives are the only ones that can steal Command Posts, and can have an Ability that can fortify Command Posts and make it more difficult for enemy Operatives to steal; it will basically lengthen the time needed to capture it and give your team more time to stop the enemy.

Engineers have an Ability called Upgrade that unlocks more features in Command Posts. What those features are, we don't know as yet.

Is it confirmed that only operatives can capture CP's?

Operatives ability is called Firewall.

The engineer ability improves the effect of the supply or health CP.

I thought everyone can capture a CP, and Ops and Engis are the ones who can "buff" them. Hm.

I was under the impression it's a hacking thing that only Operatives can pull off, being the hacker types.

That makes sense. Also there is no confirmation in the Bible either way or in any interview I can recall.

weird, I was certain I'd read that it was a universal ability somewhere.. Certainly would make more sense if it was operative-exclusive though

I believe you're thinking of hacking objectives. Pretty sure anyone can capture a command post.

In retrospect, it would make sense that any class could capture a post so you wouldn't have to switch to Operative every time you wanted to capture a Command Post. It would be like Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2 in that respect (as well as being able to change your class and respawn point).

Since Operatives are the sneaky, stealthy hackers, they would be the most naturally suited to infiltrate and take over a Command Post, essentially redrawing the front lines of combat depending on the resources and respawns (again like Battlefront). However, as Wraith said, I cannot readily recall any source specifying who can or cannot capture a CP. It is worth noting that "A Matter of Class" did not show any objective being to steal an enemy CP.

I apologize; it appears I was incorrect; I have found at least two videos featuring non-Operatives having the possibility of selecting "Capture the Enemy Command Post" as an objective on the Objective Wheel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSXr_85Ctm8, it shows a Medic has the option to capture the enemy command post.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPRWvbWzV-k&feature=related a Soldier has the same option.

These are some older videos so I hesitate to confirm it as being a feature of the final build, but in the second video, there is a lot of capturing of Command Posts going on in the background, far too many to guess that both teams were all Operatives.

I was pretty sure that was the case, I just couldn't find a source to confirm it.

Also, if only Operatives could capture them, firewalling would be insanely powerful - an Engineer would need to first breach the firewall, then he would either need to bring an Operative friend to finish the job, or run to another command post, change class, and capture it himself.

Yeah when you look at it that way, allowing only ops to hack command posts seems almost game-breaking

The Operative's ability for Command Posts is that we can Firewall them once they're captured (makes it take longer for the enemy to steal it back)

And of course you can change both your class and weapon-loadout at each command post.

Also they are NO spawnpoints.

So there is only the main spawnpoint at the start. Ok that is good. 'Cause I think that would cause more....erherm....spawn campers.

The spawns occasionally advance when you reach the next stage of a mission.
(They do for example not advance after the first stage of Container City, but after the second.)

Precisely each group has two spawn areas that get moved forward and pushed back respectively. Spawns points aren't connected with CP's which is what Rev was saying I think.

Reminds me of the health and ammo cabinets in the spawn rooms in TF2.

So what keeps 5 engineers from setting up 5 turrets +mines over a CP and just wrecking anyone from coming in?

In Killzone 2 they had this feature that only allowed a team 4 turrets on the map at any time. Killzone 3 has it so that if an engineer puts down another Turret, his old one disappears and they also do this after a certain amount of time anyway.
