Caravan Game: Very Broken

Post » Fri Nov 26, 2010 5:49 am

Alright. This game has a whole lot of bugs but here are just the ones I have found with the Caravan game.

First of all, a very large part of the game is just, well, missing... One is unable to add cards from their inventory into they play deck. They just aren't there when building your deck. The only cards available are ones from your basic play deck given to you at the beginning of the game.

The second problem is a graphical bug within the deck building phase of the game. For some reason when you try to move left or right to pick cards you want to add or remove, it does this weird skip thing. From then on, you have no idea what card you are actually on and when you start the game, you find that the cards you put in the deck are not the ones you are playing with. The only way I can find to fix this is to play in windowed mode with vsync on. Of course the rest of the game does not work then because vsync causes ridiculous mouse acceleration.

Third is that the rules are different for the NPC than they are for the player. Take a look at this screenshot: http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/2937/screenshot0o.jpg
According to the rules, I should have won this game. When the exact opposite happened in a new game and the computer had three 26's and i had two 26's and a 25, the game ended with a loss. More frustrating is that, in this situation, I am unable to discard any more cards. Perhaps this is supposed to be a rule where if you don't have any more cards in your downside deck, you cannot discard. The problem with this is that opponent IS allowed to discard making the picture above unwinnable for me.

It seems that winning conditions in general are different for the NPC as they are for the player. It is very frustrating having the rules change every time you think you won.

Also, some people are having problems with the NPC's not wagering anything ever.

One more thing. Please add controls that make some kind of sense for the PC.

You are on the bottom so you had the three 26's. So you did actually lose. But I have also encountered numerous bugs with the caravan game, including http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1125412-caravan-bug/

Thanks, hopefully they will fix it in the actual game. I don't mind playing with the basic deck so much, its just frustrating having to restart the game in windowed mode and vsync or when I want to play Caravan. Not to mention the rules being broken.

I'm pretty certain that you want to have the higher bid from 21-26. At least that's what it says in the rules. since i have 26 and he has 25, should I not be the winner?

Try turning vsync on... BUT make sure Triple Buffering is on, and if you can, limit the renderahead / max-rendered-frames to 1 or 2.

This should let you use vsync without causing much (if any) lag. (had the same problem with Dead Space, and many other games recently)

I honestly do not know. I'm still having a hard time understanding the rules for Caravan. Probably because I was to lazy to read them in the first place and thought I would be able to figure out.

Also, I noticed you can move cards up top like you are placing them there. Why make it like this if you can't actually place cards up there, or can you?

Certain cards (face cards, AFAIK) can be placed on the opponent's caravan.

EDIT: this is very tenuous. I've read the rules like once, and "tried" a game once.

The NPC player never does this to you though.

I have heard other people with this problem as well. One person said they fixed it by reinstalling, but that sounds pretty annoying.

No, because you also have two that are tied. Someone has to win in each opposing column, and whoever wins 2 out of 3 columns wins the game.
