Be careful if you open an account for ESOZenimax

I agree that it is rely stupid that we can't change the e-mail address, many people have an e-mail address provided from free web mail sites and those can be shut down for several reasons. Then what?, shall you then not be able to change the e-mail to an e-mail that does work?...Zenimax what do you rely thinking with?

Not sure why people are attacking/being rude to the OP. But I also wanted to change my email that is linked to my account and was told I could on my account page. No option for that there though.

Mine was simply to change it from my personal email to one I use for gaming. Put the wrong one in when I signed up. Lol

There are plenty of reasons why people would want to change their e-mail address. Its not so hard to figure out if the change of e-mail is valid or not.

I would say do not worry too much, once you do get someone on the phone they will simply ask you your personal questions/answer and other personal info when you created your account and they will change your e-mail there and then.

you cannot change your email

you cannot change your @Userid

you cannot change your login

basically if you get hacked your account will be vulnerable forever it is what it is, I have been trying for months to get them to let me change my @Userid to something that is NOT my login but they have blatantly refused and I have called them and emailed them and the answer is still the same no you cannot change it

The problem with security is, imo, the identity of a user. To us, other users, that identity is username and/or user's email. To a database or service that is using that database and has to provide security for it's users, it is definitely not a username or email. It is a data (usually ID) that is not accessibly to anyone outside of that database. I am not familiar with all aspects of database management and it's security, but not allowing their users to change even their email address is, imo, simply their way of minimising their work in DB management, and not so much a security reason.

It is actually impossible for me to find them over the phone and actually confirm who I am since there is no phone number on their site!

I've used the call back function they have but it seems they are very selective to which issues they will reply....

Since ZOS isn't including authenticator support and is instead basing their security around your email account, you can do the next best thing and put an authenticator on your email account.

Make a separate gmail or outlook.com email account for your ESO account and attach the Google authenticator to that email account. In theory, it should be like having an authenticator on your ESO account assuming ESO's computer id security works out.

ZOS should have just supported the Google authenticator. It's used by many other service providers already.

you cannot change your email address via phone? or skype? That is dull, they have to update their policies.

I also use my providers email, so If I want to change provider in the near feature, I wont be able to play?

Few years ago, I changed my email address in world of warcraft, they asked me a photocopy of my passport or ID and the reciept of the game....

heh , I wouldn't have a problem actually giving them a copy of my receipt or my ID/passport if I could actually manage to get in touch with them over the phone...

They have no numbers on their site and you have to rely on their callback function ( basically for them to get back to you if they feel like...)

Yes, it truly svcks.

Poor customer service all over; why the heck have a "security question" etc etc. when you cant use it to verify who you are?

Also, I'll bet that it will be no problem -whatsoever!- to change credit card information. Any takers?

In the UK, many people use email address domains supplied (eg @btinternet.co.uk, @sky.com) and locked into their ISP. Change your ISP for whatever reason (price, service, limitations) and you're forced to change your email address.

It's short sighted or an over sight not to allow a user to change their email address and many mechanism exist to allow this to be done securely and with confidence. Lock user id's by all means, but email address can and do change - and sometime beyond the users control, eg, Microsoft changing Hotmail domain to microsoftlive.

Its a necessary feature, because soon enough they will start hacking the accounts!!! So if a user is hacked, it is logical to wish to change his email address!

They cant perma attach the email with the account, without the ability to change it. Because the customers will be an easy target.

Its a game based in crafting, so the chinese/koreans are allready doing "yami yami", at least from my personal experience, each time I got an attack in my accounts (world of warcraft), is from chinese/koreans.

1. Don't change your email. Get an email that you can use for the rest of your life.

2. Don't let hackers change email addresses on account. Also don't allow the sale of accounts, thus changing the email to facilitate the change.

Anyone can get a permanent email account easy enough. Never use your ISP account for anything, that is just asking for trouble.

I've used my email since 2001, I've moved across town, changed jobs 3 times and many other changes, I will not lose my email address as the result of any of those.

I have an e-mail address tied to the university I take classes at, and another at a place of employment. I use both e-mail addresses daily. I could easily see myself at some point no longer having access to either.

This sounds like a legitimate concern.

I have come by this problem as well, only possible "fix" is to waste my early access and put the 30 day code on a new account.

I don't believe it either.

Maybe my email was compromised? I can't access that email anymore, maybe I regret giving the info of that email to some one? Sure its all on my end, but I see no reason to not be able to PREVENT FURTHER damage by simply changing my email...

Oh well, no early access for me...

Seems like they have outdated or missing security measures, its been my experience with major corporations (Microsoft,Paypal, for example) that want to verify my identity, they send a code to my phone that i of course already have confirmed with them.

I have a question... Does the account still log in? I don't think your ESO account is going to stop or be deleted if the email address goes bad. In fact thats even safer against hackers because there isn't an active email account to hack anymore, hence no access to password retreival!

Just wondering...

Then use a gmail account or an account that isn't bound to your ip or work place.

and yep this. If the email can't be changed on the user level that is in fact another layer of security. and while yes the process is tedious I can guarantee through support you'll be able to get your account back after verifying who you are.
