Be careful if you open an account for ESOZenimax

Post » Wed Mar 19, 2014 8:02 pm

because apparently you can not change you email address without having to create a whole new account according to their customer service....

When I pointed to them the fact that I have already purchased the game with my existing account their reply was nothing!!!!!

So apparently in MMO that we are supposed to play and pay for years we are not allowed to change our email address ( a need that could very likely arise for many people during the time they play the game ) without wasting our time and money we invest in this game......

edit: for people making assumptions, I have to change my internet provider from Virgin media to Sky for reason purely personal. That means I have to change my email as well

i dont really see the problem. the reason they do that is for security reasons. if you know you have to keep the email ajoined to your account...maybe you should keep the email account active. i rather have this than worry about someone hacking my account and changing my email to something else and losing all my hard work i spent on building my account up.

The problem is that I have to change my email address due to personal reasons that were not present when I made the account originally/bought the game. This is a service easily accessible for all other MMOs that I play without any security drawbacks

idk. why would someone up and change their e-mail? I've had the same one for over 15 years. it'd be like changing your phone number. why?

lol i find this quite unbelievable... And yet i am not really all that surprised by web developers not having enough brains to think of all the possible scenarios when making their account designs. The QA team that is testing their systems though should have had enough insight to tell them that "small" oversight.

P.S. On the other hand though i haven't had the need to change my e-mail address on my Blizzard account for over 8 years now. Unless the mail service provider you are using closes shop forever i don't see why you would need to change your mail on the account.

I can see some logic in it being for security reasons, but they can still give you the choice of changing your mail AND make it impossible for someone else to change it. They can just ask for a copy of your ID before changing the mail address and that's it.

Many People still use e-mail provided by their ISP. Change of ISP = change of e-mail. Or they use e-mail provided by their employer - again, change of employer = change of e-mail.

there are actually several mmo's that have adopted this as a security measure to keep hackers from stealing accounts. in more than a few ways it is a very good security measure. besides i am pretty sure that if they could varify you were the account holder they would figure out a way to fix your problem. they arent in the business of stealing money from people.

the internet is connected. and I don't know any people who use their work email as their personal email. or of any employers that allow that.

I am sorry but this just reeks of someone who got a hold of someone elses account and is trying to figure out how to switch it over to their email address before the other person figures it out and changes their email password. The OP literally just signed up to post about this.

There is no "personal" reason for changing an email account as you can change your own password and block individuals that you no longer want to receive email with. And who the hell would use their work email or school email to sign up for anything at all. No one does that, they all use their gmail or hotmail or whatever accounts.

The reasons why I have to change my email are entirely my own. And , yes , sometimes in UK keeping your phone number is not always an option if you change provider. If any Zenimax people read this my reference number is 140317-002431

I signed in yesterday because the beta forums are not accessible anymore. Trying to get through their customer support is of no use anymore

OK i can see the problem with the ISP (although where i live ISP's haven't been providing e-mails for years exactly for the above reasons), but using a work mail address for gaming??? I'm sorry but that's just poor planning :)

I can see why the ability to change the emai address tied to an account would be a necessity in certain situations. Unfortunately you probably won't get as much community support from people that won't look past it not being a problem for them in the forseeable future.

Hopefully this is just a one-off CSR response.

People have been busted for using their work email to Access porm sites - I'm sure there have been examples of People using their work email for gaming too....

not possible, but if it is then not indefensible. Every person has right to change e-mail address in every service I know.

And what if your email gets hacked ?
Most of the hackers first hack your email before hacking your game account

it has never happened , its not going to start now. i change my password on a regular basis and havent changed emails for over 10 years. that being said i still rather it be they took my email and my account which i can get both back that way just by contacting the email provider which would probably be faster at getting your account back (which most have built in account retrievel options). lets not make this about people being neglegible with their email. because that is exactly probably why we are even on this topic.

That's just bizarre, you should be able to change your email address. This is something they'll have to change at some point. Seems really stupid.

You are making too many assumptions Stromnix . I have to change my internet provider ( Virgin media) to another ( Sky broadband) for reasons entirely personal . That means I also have to change my e-mail as well

Im using mine for 8 years and it got hacked 2 times , i retrieved it but emails also are vulnearible.
They should allow us to chance our emails.
They could make it so that when you want to chance your email , they send your email an activation, when you activate it your email would chance 1 month after activation. So if an hacker hacks your email he still will need to wait 1 months until he can steal your account and you should be able to get it back on that time.
There are alot of ways to make email chancable and their results are more secure then locking email
