Carriages

Post » Wed Feb 03, 2010 4:25 am

I don't know if anybody else is worried but I'm worried about carriages and how they are going to be balanced. We know there is fast travelling as well, but that is free. So why would I spend 20 gold coins on a carriage when I could just fast travel for free? Obviously there are immersion seekers who won't use fast travel, but what about the average gamer? How will Beth balance the travel systems to make it so people will actually use carriages?

I suppose I must have missed something, when did they ever say there was going to be carrages? I thought they were still tweaking and testing horses, it would be weird for them to confirm carrages but maintain the maybe stance on horses... I think thats called putting the cart before the horse.

Because you can only fast travel to locations you have been to already and the carriages will take you anywhere?

Todd confirmed carriages in an IGN interview in March.

@Mitheledh I don't think carriages will go to dungeons. Probably cities, towns, and major locations.

pretty much this. FT doesn't take you to places you haven't been, but Carriges I speculate will take you to various cities etc etc.

It doesn't need to be "balanced", it's there for the RP enjoyment and immersion of people who prefer not to use the magic map. I will be using carriages and paying 20g or whatever for the privilege because I prefer to role-play that I am travelling by physical means. Those that don't want that RP experience will use fast travel for free, it doesn't have to be "balanced".

iirc you can take the carriages to the major cities right away without actually having been there. Other than that I don't think they mentioned carriages taking you anywhere else, which is fine for me. Fast Travel will be there for places you have already visited and I think unlike OB you won't be able to fast travel to the cities right away.

And it was really added for RP reasons because some of us liked that kind of system in MW and wished something like this was in OB.

Edit: as for horses I think they haven't been definite on being able to ride them because they are trying to improve them from what was in OB seeing as how other post-OB games have implemented them better. They don't want to put in horses for travel if it's not up to the level of current games
