Carrying Capacity

I really want packs to show on the characters. Even if third person isn't used that often. It's just one of those things that bugs me that they're missing.

System from Oblivion and Morrowind please.
Yes,some races having more capacity is okay too.
Backpack increasing capacity,no. Don't YOU carry the backpack?

Infinite pockets please.Having weapons slots would make it impossible to carry loot...

EDIT:Oh,I got it now.Backpacks carry the loot and you carry them...Well,could work but I'm not sure how a school bag would look on warriors...

Still infinite pockets I think =/

I agree, being a walking armoury is convenient but limitations are what make the game fun. Show the pack, and also introduce beasts of burden says I.

I would like to own a pack-mule named Sorrow.

Carrying capacity for me depends entirely on how the looting/financial side of the game works. If my primary source of income is through selling loot and my sole method of transporting it to market is me then I'd prefer infinite capacity. I'm unconcerned about whether it's represented by a backpack or not. I'd be happy with pack animals.

I want it based on strength but I don't want it to be "you suddenly can't move" like it was in Oblivion. I actually forgot I modded this because the mod I used felt more natural. I modded it with a mod that slows you down if you are too encumbered.

IMO there is no need to see backpacks, you would need a pretty big bag to carry all the arrows, swords, armor, potions, books. the hundreds apon hundreds of keys...

I can remember coming out of Oblivion gate after Oblivion gate, greedily carrying near to 2000 pounds worth of gear--I don't think a backpack is gonna cut it.

Already said this on similar threads, so here goes again :
1. Carry without penalty then be unable to move after picking some flax seeds is stupid, there should be graded encumbrance.
2. Don't make me buy 7 backpacks, this is not a party based rpg, they won't all fit in my backpack.
3. If we have backpacks in 3rd person, ok big rugged rucksacks for the big rugged warrior types, but can my female Altmer sorceress please have something more delicate, she can carry less anyway, maybe something by Fendi.

I dont hate infinite pockets way....but i would prefer the bag or pack whatever.
Thats why we have houses and shops ( not just for immersion/roleplay ) but for storage.
But either way wont stop playing skyrim :)
I would like it a little more realistic....but just because i do,doesn't mean others do.

Even if back packs looked goofy on nords, I would also love the option to buy some saddle bags for horses.

Give an actual reason for horses.

Either get rid of fast travel.
Make them faster than my running argonian character.
Or make them carry my crap.

I don't want to see some ugly bulky pack. It will ruin my awesome dragon bone armor. Sometimes you just have to accept that it's a game and move on.

Few people here are prepared to simply accept anything and we all think our reasons for not doing so are sound. Welcome to the realm of madness.

"Size Matters"...... despite what I keep telling my gf... <_<

I think it should be restricted to a certain amount of what you can physically hold. I.e. depending on the size of your NPC and the strength, you can hold 'x' amount of weapons. I don't think it should ever be more than 2 'Large' weapons.

So for example a average size NPC can hold 1 long sword and 2-3 knives/daggers upon his person. Alternatively, if you're carrying a bow, that takes the space for a large weapon. You would be restricted to medium/small weapons on your person.

I think this should be represented visually on the character... No more secret invisible pockets.

Pockets should be for small items... bags should be for slightly larger objects (runes/books) etc.

That would make a much more realistic approach.

If you're searching a ruin, you can't suddenly pick up 50 shiny balls which are the size of a normal football. You would have to purchase a sack/bag or make multiple trips.

[Keep in mind I think this should be a hardcoe option - it reverts to traditional TES for normal players]

Capacity needs to be slightly reduced I feel unless you are a solid fighter character, such as an Orc etc, By the end of Oblivion I was carrying a shops worth of stuff!

* Encumbrance to affect what you do, such as slow you down, shorter jumps, impossible to keep buoyancy etc. Not *realistic*, but *more realistic*.
* Hand cart for much more weight, but will still slow you down - no jumping or swimming at all.
* Horse with saddle bags for less weight than the hand cart, but with much greater speed.
* Horse with cart for maximum carriage, but slower than horse on its own.

Horse and cart will take up two (out of two) companion slots, so it's up to you what you are willing to give up. You can choose to go for a horse and companion, or two companions.

I'm really not too comfortable with this "bag upgrade/perk" thing, especially in multiples.

Id like something like visible backpacks when you’re over encumbered, or nearly over encumbered.

Maybe have it be purchasable and add a little to your max carrying capacity.

So after a long day of treasure hunting, you’d return to your hideout with an “overflow loot bag” on your back.

I agree. The financial side of the game depends on how the carrying capacity works. I don't like the idea of back packs, they would look stupid on a full set of armor or on the back of a mage in robes. I do like the idea of pack animals. As far as a carrying capacity, it should be determined with Strength like in previous games.

Honestly, I'd like to have infinite space in my inventory, because after gaining hundreds of items, inventory management becomes pain in the a$$. In an open-world RPG, it doesn't make gameplay more challenging or interesting, just more frustrating.

still undecided on this, backpacks would look cool but also they might not

I don't know we just have to w8 and see

maybe they become visible when you reach for them (when you press the inventory key) then they vanish when your finished :P
