Cats...Synths?

Post » Mon Mar 07, 2016 1:13 am

Anyone else think that the cats you find wandering about the Commonwealth, are actually synths? It's been stated numerous times throughout the Fallout series that cats are extinct, with most recently Mr. House in New Vegas saying it. Not to mention, we know the Institute is trying to bring back previously extinct species as synths.

Either that, or the Institute got ahold of Mr. Bigglesworth from Dr. Evil while they were in cryo, and cloned the crap out of him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHYEthYTMhM

There would probably be a hint to that on an Institute terminal. I think Bethesda just wanted to add cats into the game.

And who can blame them....cat's are adorable!! :teehee:

I don't think the word of Mr. House means anything for places far away from Vegas.

As far as Synth animals go, I don't think cats are Synths. The brahmin though... from what I hear, several of them actually Synth Components on their corpses when killed.

There is a terminal in Institute Bioscience, describing briefly the work done to land and air creatures(not much said). Nothing too specific, but it does mention the work towards engineering sea creatures, mainly sharks and dolphins. You can see the "Sharphins" on most of the coastline. There is also mention of "Institute Crows" from at least one NPC. Kinda lost my train of thought, just gonna leave it at this.

The brahmin really? It looked like they were just figuring out apes, which are man-like and not a far stretch from the human synths. But a brahmin is a totally different kind of animal and no mention of that in the Institute PC's. Plus the one's I have in my settlements eat and make fertilizer. That just seems really weird.

Synth or no Synth, those kitties are adorable! I wish I could pet them. I also want some for my settlements!! :)

I don't think they are synth, but I do think that they are cloned from one original cat. Maybe the last surviving cat of the Commonwealth. Every cat you encounter looks alike, they are all grey tabbies. Where are the black cats, the orange tabbies, the white cats, the white and grey cats, the black cats with white paws... etc. etc. ????

If you access a certain abandoned area of the Institute, you may find the answer you're looking for =)

But do they go to the toilet? ;)

True but there's nothing in the terminals suggesting those we find in the commonwealth were synths.

Dogmeat is a synth sent by Father to keep an eye on you.

How else could the SS just happen to run into the most loyal and dependable dog, and a purebred at that?

I've never taken any Fallout lore to imply that cats are extinct. A couple of scattered comments about how you "don't see cats around here anymore" doesn't equate to a canonical statement that cats are extinct. They were hunted to extinction for food in some areas, but why would that mean it was the case everywhere? Cats have gone extinct in certain areas, not globally.

I'm pretty sure the cats are just cats.

Regarding the synth brahmin that you can find, I think that's more of a joke/easter egg than anything else. I don't think we're actually meant to believe that the Institute is creating synth brahmin.

To be fair, the only info we ever got on the subject were two people from the West Coast who have no way of actually knowing if cats are extinct or not.

I personally never liked the Istitute but if cats actually exist cause they're synths...I had to rethink my approch to the Institute.

Spoiler
Eh, I wish I didn't nuked them that time.

One of the explorer messages in Fallout: Shelter says something like, "We were wrong; cats are not extinct."

Synths bramins not only exist... but also attack settlements lol.

Anyway, since we don`t see any mutated cat and only one type in entire commonwealth, I think many of them can be presumed as synths. (It makes no difference anyway)

Didn`t we find some dead cat and cat meats in Bio-science division of Institute?

(Maybe it was Medi-tek. It`s been far too long since I visited those places)

This is not on topic,

but I find it hard to believe Cats to go extinct due to the nuclear war though.

Almost all house cats can turn feral within days if they must adapt to the situation without any problem.

House Dogs, on the other hand, should mostly die without proper shelter and food provided to them regularly.

Actually there were a bunch of dead cats there. Hadn't connected that before. There really didn't appear to be any reason for them being there, though they were around the Super Mutant holding chambers.

I don't remember the whole thing well but those cats were used to test the attitude of the produced supermutants, I don't think they were created there.

I can confirm that you can find synth components on Brahmins

I had just finishing building my starlight settlement when an Brahmin appeared (despite not building a feeder for it) and kept getting stuck in the doorway so I decided to kill it and move it's corpse away only to discover it was an SYNTH!

All dead cats that I saw in this game did not have any synth components on them and they did not have synthetic meat too , like those gorillas in the Institute. http://yandex.ru/clck/jsredir?from=yandex.ru%3Bsearch%2F%3Bweb%3B%3B&text=&etext=983.G7gOg1hvwRls0Jnlndyt1-bgnsk1qIMfplV8QNg1YWleMVSc7XLfwy7aTFoFGIddkqjBLkdXij96nhX8z9T9DA.a76043c628aa15dca5f84810eed32c518658d28b&uuid=&state=PEtFfuTeVD5kpHnK9lio9T6U0-imFY5Ibl_FxS8ahbetb9q-Ws8tqQaT6YcO5ES2WU_XNsggvSsFTfHqJ8Yy-1diqrUkiHwNVkMEv806VSQ&data=http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1595084-catssynths/UlNrNmk5WktYejR0eWJFYk1LdmtxZ1RFZTI5ZEVrZjd2bFQ1UmE0bzdDNkdHbnpiRUhoWXdyQWQtaDhHR1h5UXA0VjdfMDZWMHp1OGRJN1RxcmhCbHprYlpXcFRzeVdUa3VLWE8yNS15QWtoc25YY0FYMTlKTWlVOERUUDR0RmxOdGpGeXdWOEp4Yw&b64e=2&sign=6eede6d395221595168c56c82d98c892&keyno=0&cst=AiuY0DBWFJ5fN_r-AEszkwpos3HH4Fp9E1IEu9RLBXP0BK7plaMCMYfnK0UPA4glT7ZNHZJemOkyfV03McxooQ0e4Jpf5OtNGMxsweJR9I1YjEkCXIO3Be-MZiIcfVDEAwipw8j8UCMUqEC3sUrGhMAJi9BnfOEtTz1zlhKruZQ-WN1ZLA48J81uEveNStWaRUoabnbocFnK0QhMN-t3uHUwU4v-MZrqnJSWOguhwuyV0lg68Fq5bGbAzd3fGScOj6i_Mqau3pZow1qN2Gvmvw&ref=orjY4mGPRjk5boDnW0uvlrrd71vZw9kpyLHe-OAUMjI1jegsMgOqkJr4n0JvVdOuTfP2Of6f3i9WlBnxU8yo8bw0_50G7pbxh-si0cA0a-s0IBrkhvujSAOGoldSVo0xV2fURCCL60EMjgzSY5Q0Hkh46cVY_tKkqeZcNZONMKpwKOWC8v02vQ&l10n=ru&cts=1457108853891&mc=4.784414751254187
