Who said cats did not survived?

Its a question of resources ... creating a cat creature (and so, its textures, meshes and animations) that in the end have no little to no impact on the game is a waste of resources, same rats were we only see the giant, pig and mole variants.

Also Centaurs were created "by tossing a varied mix of dogs, cats, brahmin, and other animals into a vat and seeing what came out the other end", a reference to cats existing ... simply that due to them presenting a almost non existing threat there is no point in creating the sprites/models for then.

Some of those points are just your opinions, Bishop. And, acording to statistics, cats are now mans best friend (since there are more cats than dogs used as friends).

Plus, I'll add two more...

l) Dogs will bark at danger to warn you
m) A raider sees two wanderers and decides to raid one, does he go for 'Mr A' with his German Shepherd or 'Mr B' with his tabby?

l) Which is pretty much useless when you're stealthy.
m) Mr. A with his German Shepard, because he has much more supplies than Mr B. Simple as that.

Dogs are better at fighting and warning.
Useful tools for survival however they also need feeding and they eat alot more than cats.
Dogs are the "Comfy living" Wastelanders pet.

Cats hunt and fetch constantly, for anyone who has ever had a cat you will know this.
They also eat alot less than dogs.
Cats are smart and intellegent and will avoid prey whist hunting, domestic dogs are often reckless and raised wild dogs could probably not be trained.
Cats are the "Poor wastelander scraping to survive" perfect pet.

If your a raider in your bad ass fort full of food and a constant residence so you can breed dogs...
They will be good tools to survive and ward off prey.

If your a normal wastelander and you happen to have a cat, im sure you will much appreciate the constant offering of dead rodents and small birds ec cetera.
A man can survive on a rat per day for a long time and if your cat brought it, you dont have to even work for it.
Also your cat is less of a drain on food as it eats alot less than a dog.
Finally a Cat will be less inclined to attract attention due to its light footed and stealthy nature meaning there si a less chance it will attract attention to its self or you.

There is no saying either is better but I would take a cat.

things cats are good for
1) maybe the cat could crawl into small spaces to get stuff...
2)or just sit there.
3) you could tape its feet to humor yourself when three dog or eden isnt on
4) you could shoot it out of the rock-it launcher
5) you could create a cool new melee weapon with it
6) you could eat it...like everybody else

I dunno about all you, but up here in cold-ass Canada, we have to be pretty weary of cougars when we're out hiking.

You rarely hear of a person killing a cougar when taken by surprise.

Don't go posting some obscure article about a crazy mountain man killing a cougar with his bare hands. I don't care.

Wildcats would survive in the wasteland. Fact.
Dogs would survive in the wasteland. Fact.
A small, small amount of very very careful domestic cats would survive in the wasteland. Fact.

the dog simply because it wouldn't do that, a dog lives to please it's master, the alpha or pack leader, it would simply assume it had done something bad.
the cat on the other hand will be the one punishing you, because you are not it's master, and you never will be, at best you might be it's equal, at worst you are it's servant.

and i live with both cats and dogs so i do actually know what i'm talking about. (i have always lived with both types of animals while growing up.)

I'd say that cats more than likely did mutate. Look what it did for the bears.
As for being hunted into extinction for food - we got squirrel on a stick, but I've yet to see a squirrel in the game. I doubt you could hunt cats into extinction. They going into heat 7 months from birth. (looking ruefully at the bathroom door, awaiting for the vet appt).
Been plenty of jokes and incidents where when humans died, their cats (and dogs) ate them.

I'm sure that a few large cat critters will appear in DLC. After all - the Chinese invaded .... and yet we still have dogs.
(I had to go there. Fragrant meat is fail)

On the side discussion/theory that MoleRats are cats -

Please remember Nutria have 2 inch long teeth. And bear a striking resemblance if they were bald.

I think both would have been acceptable and the fact that there arent any cats is because people didnt want to design them. I could also ask the following:

-why are the only birds in the sky above towns-
-why arent there trees 200 years after the nuclear war-
-why doesnt it rain radiated rain in washington DC-
-why cant they use something besides the jefferson memorial to purify water? -
-why are mole rats giant and dogs have been unchanged-
-why did the government make a portable nuclear rocket launcher thing that shoots 8 nukes (MIRV)

Who knows but the game is still one of the most BAMF things ive ever played.

Same reason seagulls follow trawlers, more food to scavange (from trash etc)

Dogs probably ran away from protected environments of their owners or went ferral when their owners died/were killed.


Well, there was a real world equivalent of a Fat Man (portable nuclear launcher) it just didn't turn out to be practicle, if it had, why not fire 8 instead of 1?
