CavesDungeons

Are they as amazing as Skyrim's? I love some good dungeon crawling as well as a nice mix of overworld exploration. Did Obsidian nail it, or did they falter?

They just aren't the focus of New Vegas, Fallout 3 has tons though. This being said I felt that the caves kept their purpose and the stories behind each of the Vaults were all better then anything I'd found in Oblivion's dungeons(haven't played Skyrim).

Note: No offense intended, but I really hate the term 'dungeons' being used for Fallout.

That's why I said caves/dungeons. How many non vault caves are there?

Quality over quantity is what I'm largely hearing about that. As I said, dungeon diving isn't the focus of New Vegas.

This, caves/dungeons play a fairly minor part in the game. But I don't think you factored in the DLCs when counting how many caves there are. OWB has a few interesting ones, and caves play a larger part in HH.

21 is just in the vanilla game, from what I counted there are about 35 with the DLC's.

Fallout isn't a TES game and therefore it isn't all about pointlessly crawling though caves and dungeons.

New Vegas has alot of nice caves to explore including an underwater one. There are also great vaults such as Vault 11, Vault 34, and Vault 22. There is even a sewer system to explore as well. Then there are the DLC :fallout:

As others have said it's quality over quantity.

Why don't you like the vaults? Are they fun?

They are fun, it's just some people hope Vaults spent more time telling it's story or throwing things for you to shoot at rather than making you confused on how to proceed to the next part.

I wouldn't say tedious, but sometimes confusing. You might end up walking in circles, but looking at local map helps, and calming down instead of running around does wonders. They have pretty interesting stories to tell, so that might motivate you to explore them even if you don't like their corridor design.

One of my minor annoyances with New Vegas, the lack of dungeons/buildings to explore but that makes the ones that are unique like Repconn more fun and rewarding to explore.
