CDC Drops acceptable levels of fluoride in drinking water

I've never heard of it.

Its a line from the movie Snatch. Guy Ritchies last movie that was actually good. Lots of good Brit actors, plus Brad Pitt as a "Pikey". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8jbt0wBkMI.

Yeah, I know, I just remembered the Lancashire line and saw you were from there.

Hence why tampering with water in any way is absolutely beyond stupid.

I choose not to poison myself.

Given that things like chlorine and chloramines are put into drinking water to disinfect it, the thought of "tampering" with water to avoid things like e. coli is fine by me. I'm honestly not quite sure why scientists are just figuring out that fluoridation is bad - it's been around, at least in the U.S, for over 60 years - easily enough time for people to notice any problems.

Its not the mass poisoning that some will make it out to be, its just that there has been an upward trend in the number of fluoride poisonings so they've lowered the threshold for safe levels of fluoride in water.

The tap which comes from underground reservoirs. Although it obviously has natural contaminants although not major. Just trace amounts of metals/minerals.

This is to the best of my current knowledge.

Same here. Parents had a bore installed a few years back. It's bloody good water, I miss it when I'm flatting and the water in town is so chlorinated it's like drinking from a public pool :yuck:

Got myself a britta filter for my last semester of college, and not only does storing it in my fridge keep it near ice cold temperatures, but it does taste a lot better than from the tap.

The first studied case of both the benefits and dangers of fluoride in the water supply come from water sources with naturally high fluoride levels, so you never know.

As far as I'm aware there are only about 2 or 3 towns in New Zealand that fluorodate their water and mine is not one of them. Also looking at the CCC website says that Christchurch water is untreated.
