James Marsters did an awesome job with the Dresden Files audiobooks, he'd be perfect for a mercenary type character or a dark brotherhood assassin. Or a vampire, since he has years of experience doing that, lmao.

No celebrities please.

I'd prefer actually voice actors.

A wise array of voices for all the random people in the game seems more important than getting "someone big!" for one voice.

For instance, I didn't recognize Liam Neeson in FO3, and all I got from Malcolm McDowell was "hmm, I think I recognize that voice".

Meanwhile, I'd prefer not to see something like this again:

Lynda Carter ... Female Nords / Female Orcs
Jonathan Bryce ... Male Argonians / Male Khajiits / Male Nords / Male Orcs
Catherine Flye ... Female Bretons / Female Imperials
Gayle Jessup ... Female Redguards
Linda Canyon ... Female Altmers / Female Bosmers / Female Dunmers
Elisabeth Noone ... Female Argonians / Female Khajiits

------

I'd prefer actually voice actors.

In fairness, a number of notable actors do really good voice work. (Many of the people they got for the animated Batman & Justice League shows in the past decade or so, for example).

Meh, celebrity VO is over rated. I'd rather they use less expensive VO and put that money and resources elsewhere.

Anyone with a voice.

I don't understand why voice actors are so special with voices. Anyone with the ability to speak. I can talk in many different patterns and tones, hell I do it for fun.

And more importantly forget celebrities, just some random person could do a better voice for the imperials in Oblivion. Sure you might need some special voice or such for a certain personality. But filler NPCs and characters can be done by anyone.

I only want voices I don't recognize outside of Elder Scrolls. Luckilly I'm not very familiar with Max Von Sydow (other than his voice role in Ghostbusters 2, which I wouldn't have realized if they never said anything), so he doesn't ruin much for me, but nothing is worse for a supposedly-immersive RPG than a character who has a voice that immediately makes you think of someone outside the game. I don't want Captain Picard/Patrick Stewart, I want Uriel VII. I want Martin Septim, not Boromir/Sean Bean. And those two aren't even voice actors, they're stage and screen actors, which just makes it worse... they can't use the body language they'd normally use to individualize the characters the play (think of Ian McKellan with his Magneto and Gandalf roles; if you just had the voice they wouldn't be very distinguishable, but on-screen they are by the way they act).

A big point in using celebrities is to associate the celebrity with their character in the game, and that is something they should not be doing, IMO. Unless they're really good, so much that they can hide their identity and make you think of the character behind the voice (a rare talent among celebs), and are not super expensive to hire (even rarer), it's better to avoid celebrities.

And lots of people sing in the shower for fun. Doesn't mean that Rebecca Black or most of the contestants on American Idol can Sing. :D

Talking and singing are two different things. I can't carry a tune worth my life. But its all about matching the voice with the character, anyone can voice act if their voice can fit the character. Some people are talented enough to use different dialects and tones and such and thats why their valued more. With regular NPCs who have no unique "speech" could be done by anyone.

Instead of having one guy voice the entire imperial legion or male orc population we could have had a better number of different voices with variety. Some people would do it for free really if given the chance.

Then again I care less for voice-acting and would just want a ton of dialogue to read and flesh out the world text only.

I hope to hear the best celebrities & actors they can get. Jason Marsden is one who does voice acting and all kinds of acting. He'd be great and he's worked for them before. I love actors who can make me feel something, not just read lines. :)

Talking and voice acting are different. When you voice act, you don't talk normally. You talk in a way that emphasizes certain words and carries the proper tone and mood of the dialog. Without using your face or any body language, you have to make the listener believe you're being happy, excited, sarcastic, angry, or whatever the dialog calls for. It's not about fitting someone's voice to a character. It is, literally, acting with your voice.

Strange that noone mentioned the guy in the trailer. Max von Sydow... A scandinavian actor with heaps of talent. Perfect for Skyrim.

I wouldn't mind Alan Rickman, Christopher Walken, Christopher Lee, Liam Neeson.
But I really don't care about who will be the voice actors as long as they do a good job.

I would like the guy who was the imperial in Oblivion and orcs and bretons in Morrowind. He's great.

Wes Johnson? Though I'd like many more voice actors in Skyrim, the ones they've employed previously are really good and it'd be a travesty not to have them, IMHO.

I'm sure most people know how to do this with their own voice.

^^ I could care less how well known someones name is who does voices in my games. In fact, if i recognize a voice, thats pretty bad immersion breaking.

If they're going to have voice acting at all, it should be good voice acting - actors who know how to do it, with a dialogue director who can get a good performance out of them. No voice is better than bad voice.

(Example - Jennifer Hale's performance as Female Shepard in the Mass Effect games is amazing. "Just anyone talking" would have svcked & ruined the game. She's certainly more than enough reason to pick a female PC rather than Mark Meer's male Shepard.)
