QFT

Although, I would rather have a larger variety of voices than one big celebrity, where the other voices are done by a small group of people. But, if there was extra room in the budget to support Morgan Freeman, well... :deal:

>.>; I feel like the only person who thought Patrick Stewart as the Emperor was awesome. (He's done more than Captain Picard, after al. :P Talented VA.) But I'm neutral on the celebrity voice-acting thing. It would start to sound silly if there were all these celeb voices going around... but it also sounds silly to be hearing the same handful of people all the time.

A happy medium works for me. ^_^

Why would you want to go back to text and no dialogue?

I read faster then the voice actors can speak. Its extremely annoying to finish reading all the dialogue while they're still on the third word. What's the point of having any voiced dialogue (setting aside Celebrities), if I cut it off mid sentence?

IMO, I liked Morrowind's voicing better. I liked the way dark elves sounded, and Azura's voice didn't sound like a hermaphrodite.

Dunno... Oblivion was my first TES game... i didnt know about the series before i read a great review of Oblivion.

But that does sound a little judgemental to me. Why would you want a fully voice acted game, just because you happen to be a console player? because thats what they are used to? is that your theory? People is different. I am a console gamer and you know what? i would be fine with a mostly text based game.

Same here. I would have been fine with reading loads of text and I prefer playing on a console. Not every console player prefers a fully voice acted game, I preferred what they did in Twilight Princess which is that they had the text at the bottom of the screen with the characters looking like they are saying it even though nothing is really being said (unless it was Midna, who would speak random gibberish).

I'd rather have good voices than celebrity ones, but remember that that isn't mutually exclusive. I like Sean bean in Oblivion, the only issue is he got the most lines but the least advertising.

Also, let's just have more voices than one per race group. Altmer male was fine for Altmer male, but not Dunmer or Bosmer male in Oblivion. So while the actor was great, he didn't fit all his characters.

I liked the Morrowind High Elf voices better but the Oblivion voice was good too. Also bring back the Morrowind Imperial and Dark Elf actor back. They were brilliant and the female Dark Elf voice was really funny when they attacked you, far more than the Oblivion elf voice and their "this is the part Where You Fall Down AND BLEEEED TO DEATH!!!!" taunt.

I wish they would use no name people for voices and in turn use the money on other parts of the game.

Why don't you just turn off subtitles then?

Probably because when you read you can imagine what the characters sound like and interpret the ebb and flow of the convo anyway you want. Old school games with less voice acting (or none) really excercise the imagination and the player creates a lot of the role-playing flavor for themselves. When less is left to the imagination the game will always fall short of what the player could imagine for themselves.

How about Bruce Campbell? He's done games before, and as much as it pains me that he isn't, he's not exactly a huge name.

I'd like voices that suit the characters in the game. I think that particularly Martin's voice added a lot to Oblivion. Perhaps someone else could have done a comparable performance at lower cost, but I don't know who that would be.

Well to be honest I think celeb voices can be great in games if done right. Killing them off five minutes into the game may not be the best way to do things. But again, it can work if done right. For example Bioware has done it properly IMO. If you have played Mass Effect I think you'll agree with me in this.

Keith David for example is a very good actor and a superb voice actor who has really showed his talent. Anyone who has played Mass effect, Halo 2 or 3, Saints Row, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 knows this.
Lance Henriksen is another good example of this. Celeb voice actors can be great for marketing, but more importantly, you know they will deliver an outstanding performance. It really is getting the most bang for your buck....If done right.

I have faith in Bethesda, and I feel that they will respond properly to the complaints the fans had in oblivion, in regard to the voice acting.

I think if they're going to do voice-acting (which is inevitable I'd think at this point, unfortunately for me) there are 'celebrities' and then there are celebrities. A good character actor affecting some kind of voice modulation who will basically go unrecognized is the way I would do it. Patrick Stewart with one of the most recognizable voices in the world, or Sean Bean who was just coming off The Lord of the Rings films, shatter immersion for me personally. Keith David, while a very good actor/voice actor isn't exactly a household name and I probably wouldn't know him if he walked past me on the street. He'd be a good choice because he's good, and not immersion shattering.
