Celebrity voice for TES 5

Post » Fri Dec 04, 2009 6:28 pm

well, i cant see it was the PC crowd that asked for full voiced NPCs? or was it?

Dunno... Oblivion was my first TES game... i didnt know about the series before i read a great review of Oblivion.

But that does sound a little judgemental to me. Why would you want a fully voice acted game, just because you happen to be a console player? because thats what they are used to? is that your theory? People is different. I am a console gamer and you know what? i would be fine with a mostly text based game.

I'm kind of indifferent on this one, I want good voice acting, but I don't want it to cost so much it takes away from the game.

Trouble is that quality isn't always insured by high profile actors, so is the extra money worth it?

low profile is no guarantee either, and it can't be used for marketing, but at least it wont cost you your whole budget for a mediocre performance, and you might get lucky, and get a real talent.

From what I've understood that's some local voice actor and the guy holding the torch is a Bethesda employee (don't quote me on that though). Isn't that much cooler than Patrick Steward? And much cheaper.

As mentioned before in another thread, Daggerfall's intro is one my favourites, very atmospheric.

I'd rather have good voices than celebrity ones, but remember that that isn't mutually exclusive. I like Sean bean in Oblivion, the only issue is he got the most lines but the least advertising.

Also, let's just have more voices than one per race group. Altmer male was fine for Altmer male, but not Dunmer or Bosmer male in Oblivion. So while the actor was great, he didn't fit all his characters.

Or...even if he isn't. :lmao:

None. Celebrities cost ridiculous amounts of money that could be better spent increasing the size of the dialogue system as a whole (or ensuring that more than 10 voice actors do the voices for 10 races w/ male/female distinctions).

First reply I read in this topic and most likely the best one, too (not going to bother reading the rest of 'em).

Actually, I liked the british sounding voices they had in MW. Made them seem like the arrogant, egotistical people they are. But yes, they should go back to what they did in MW; 1 voice per race. Made it also a heck of a lot easier to know who was imperial and who was a breton. Bretons sounded more high-pitched and fancy, imperials sounded more disciplined and tough. In fact, all the voices in MW fit each race really well.

They were great in Morrowind too, but some quality of the voice in OB just clicked. Opposite can be said of the Dunmer, the OB voice did not fit them at all.

I think we can all agree that they should definitely keep Wes Johnson.

You think Wes Johnson could be the next Mel Blanc?

As far as Breton voices go, I thought the ones in OB were fine. MW bretons sounded a little too... feeble?

As long as he promises not to reprise the role of Sheogorath.

Wait...what?

well since Oblivion came out we have had fully voiced npcs.

which im kinda sure no PC people asked for, since we, like declared by some polls here, liked Morrowinds system, so that must mean it was made to please the console crowd? ya know, easifing so a bigger crowd with no former RPG knowledge can get into it and all that.

so since TES became multisystem we got fully voiced NPCS (and "easified" menues etc) since it wasnt present earlier.

but it can also be the result of a new dev team too, who thought it was cool and all.

well if you can't see it, then it must not be, right? Do you even have anything to back that up with whatsoever?

true, no written report on it, but do see above post.

I was thinking more of "nasal" - as in, they sound like they have a slight cold. Voice is a bit reedy, too. So, yeah, feeble.

I miss the Southern accent the Bretons had in MW. :sadvaultboy:

I didn't like the Imperial's voices in TESIV - they sounded too cliche (vaguely British/aristocratic). And I HATED that Nords and Orcs had the same voice; same with Khajiit and Argonians. >:(

I'm guessing you mean the female Imperials, who shared a voice actor with female Bretons (as male Imperials didn't sound British at all)

But yeah, as others have said here, I don't mind everyone of the same race sharing a voice, it's when multiple races are all sharing the same voice that it starts to be too much. And it'd be nice if all the important NPCs could get unique voices.

Yeah, I too would have liked to hear different voices for Nords, Orcs, Khajiit and Argonians. Leave the voices for the argonians and nords, but give the khajiit voices you might expect from a lion, something like on the Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe. As for Orcs, bring back the voices from MW.

Liam Neeson is too awesome for that role, he did play your father in Fallout 3, but maybe he could play the Emperor or someone of higher authority.

A plot-important character, of course, or maybe just a minor easter egg. Hey, I know, he could be M'aiq!

I could see him as Titus Mede, but if TESV is really so long after Oblivion he will be long dead.

I sill say they need at least 100 voice actors, with the following logic.

The absolute and maximum that is acceptable for me, is having a voice-actor do it for FREE or no more than 1 dollar, for their whole script, and i'm talking AT LEAST 100 different voices in total:

10 races
2 genders per race
10 times 2 equals 20
100 divided by 20 equals 5
so 5 per gender per race
I think it's safe to assume that there are 5 NPC's for each races gender, that dont sound the same, RPG's are about immersion, not which actor we can hear <_<
