Cellar key and follower questions

Post » Tue Oct 19, 2010 4:01 pm

1. Where is the key for the cellar in the bombed out house in Springfield (or is it Springvale)?

2. How do I get my followers (I have Charon at the moment) to use a different weapon or equip better armor? It seems like Charon only uses a combat shotgun. Also, if i give Charon my Terrible Shotgun will he switch to that since it deals more dmg? And will I be able to get it back and have him switch back to his own combat shotgun if I want to get my Terrible Shotgun back later on?

Springvale. That cellar is a part of Broken Steel, after you have finished "Take it Back!" You'll find out about it eventually...

You tell him you want to trade stuff with him. Then you can give him whatever you like. Charon in my game is currently wearing the Hat of the People, Lucky Shades, Enclave Hellfire Armor and is carrying the Lucky 8 Ball. He looks good. If he pisses me off, he has to wear a pre-war bonnet for several hours... punishment, think: The Bonnet of Shame.

Charon has a very unique shotgun. It has absolutely zero spread. Meaning he can take down enemies many yards away with a single shot. It is far better than the Terrible Shotgun. I'd let him keep his default weapon. I give him a Shiskebab for close-in action. And a note regarding giving companions weapons, especially unique ones:
Followers will use that weapon until it gets degraded, and then they will DROP it. Without telling you. Sometimes the weapon will get shot out of their hands. They will not retrieve it. So always, always always check in with them after a battle, to make sure they still have it. And repair it as best as you can on a regular basis. All that being said, Jericho is a god of war with the Heavy Incinerator. :flamethrower: I don't have to fire a single shot if he's got one of those babies.

You have to give them appropriate ammunition in addition to the weapon. Then, if the damage they would do with that weapon is better than the damage dealt by their default weapon, they should switch.

Also, you have to check to make sure they have ammo for the weapon you give them, and resupply them when they run out. They only have unlimited ammo for their default weapons.
