Censorship in the new Fallout Collection?

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 12:34 pm

So a few days ago, the Fallout Collection, containing 1, 2, and Tactics on a single DVD, came out in NA. I was just about to buy it today, but I've read from several sources that it's censored. The european edition, atleast. I'm not exactly sure how extensive the censorship is, but one of them involves the exclusion of children. Has the NA edition suffered the same fate?

Also, what are the instruction booklets like in this edition? Are they copies of the originals, or just half-assed revisions? What sort of instruction booklets did the originals have anyway?

The original EU releases of Fallout 1&2 had all children removed, even "way back when".

So NA versions are safe?

So NA versions are safe?

Safe from what, killing children?

My GoG version of FO2 is "safe".

pretty much any copy of fallout 1 and 2 you'll buy nowadays has the kids removed (somewhat buggily - there's floating text and you still get pickpocketed in the den in fallout 2) - apparently that's interplay's "official version". there's patches on nma to add them back but i tend to avoid nma like the plague so i don't want to find links.

if you mean the WHITE LABEL collection the manuals are (i believe) straight pdf conversions of the real things, not just revisions. if not then i dunno.

I meant safe from censorship. I know the old NA versions had none of that, but I'm just wondering if this re-release had any censorship going on, especially in face of FA3 cutting out the ability to kill children.

Children were pretty much the only content that suffered censorship, so when you talk about censorship in the original Fallouts, you talk about the kids :P

My White Label edition of the Fallout collection, which I believe is a UK edition rather than an EU edition (possibly both as they essentially correspond to the same thing), included children as far as I'm aware, I don't remember having to patch them back in.

FO3's censorship has nothing to do with the originals. Bethesda own the content. Iplay still have the sales license.

Thanks for the help on this, but I just want clear-cut answers on 2 things:

-Does the brand new Fallout Collection for the NA release include ANY sort of censorship? Someone mentioned that re-releases of FA1 and 2 by Interplay had censorship, but it doesn't make sense when apparently the UK white label editions have none.

-What are the instruction manuals like in the new Fallout Collection? I remember buying the Painkiller Triple Dose a couple of months ago, and that, for example, included the full game and both expansions on 2 discs, yet had no instruction manual whatsoever. Just a PA poster comic.

Emm. I made a mistake. My FO1 version is patched, and originally doesn't contain children, it is censored. I can't find the appropriate patch for my FO2, but I have patched it a few times, and there's no reason why FO2 wouldn't be as censored as FO1 in its original state with my White Label collection.

The manuals are present on my White Label collection disc. With some patches and bonus content for Fallout Tactics. There is no content on the disc that can't be downloaded, however.

I don't know what to tell you about the NA collection, I haven't found any information on it. But my collection at least, is censored.

Come to think on it, I'm not sure either. I goth the GoG version to replace my FO2 disk, but I think maybe the last time I played it, I was using the original disk.

I think you can safely by the versions from either www.gog.com or the NA collection of the old Fallouts. No Mutans Allowed (www.nma.com) do have lots of interesting patches for the games, also the one that adds the children back into the game.

The reason I'm mentioning NMA is simply because they have a restoration patch for Fallout 2 (I think) and a patch that allows you to play Fallout 1 in Fallout2's engine which mean you can push your companions out of the way - along with several widescreen mods - or at least one...

This still really isn't answering much though. Is the NA Fallout Collection censored, or not? That's all I really want to know.

What Chris is saying is that even if they are, there are patches available to DEcensor them.

I can't find anywhere that points to the NA collection being censored or not. In this instance I'd have to assume it is. Unless anyone can find any information to the contrary.

There is no such thing as a single "EU edition". E.g. the UK version of FO2 has children removed, the German version has children and all the blood removed, while Polish version is uncensored.

So, does anybody else have an idea? I just sent Interplay customer support a message about it.

Same boat here, but I still have my FO1 original disc. I hadn't tried my new GOG FO2 ~It never occurred to me that they would stoop to such a low (if true ~ which I haven't checked But I'm about too...)

Its not true for GoG installers. I just had the PC take a swing at one (he missed), and the child threw a grenade at him :lmao: (but was within range of the blast an so killed himself with the attack).

To clarify a few things, the White Label Fallout collection is both censored and not censored. I still use my original discs for FO 1 and 2 but I tried out the White Label versions for the heck of it, Fallout 1 is the censored UK release and Fallout 2 is the original uncensored NA release. The new North American "Fallout Trilogy" retail release is likely the non censored versions since the versions included would be coming from what's left of Interplay in America. I don't know that for a fact, but I can't imagine why they'd use the UK releases instead.

What's left of the company shouldn't make a difference, they could just use a copy from the store, copy it's content and re-release on the collection.

Interplay isn't distributing the new retail release, though; some company called "Gator" which I never heard of myself is the publisher of this collection. My guess is that they just took the digitally distributed Fallout Trilogy that Interplay released on GamesPlanet and slapped it on a DVD. If Interplay's digital release is the censored UK versions then this retail collection probably is, but I haven't tried any of the digital versions.

Patch it anyway. Fallout 2 especially has some nasty bugs that are fixed with the patches. Then download Killap's Restoration Project for Fallout 2 and you're done, most bugs are out, kids are back, content is added, makes up for a more rounded up experience. And the downloading and installing of the patch and Restoration Project will take five minutes tops.
