No Center camera? Hope that will change.

Post » Fri Feb 14, 2014 12:38 pm

The one thing from watching the beta videos and reading previews that I found a bit lacking is the lack of being able to center the camera (It seems if you zoom it out really far it centers, but when up close it is over-the-shoulder).

I do not understand why they can't allow a simple center camera view when up close to your character, which is one of the main views most mmo players know/use, instead of forcing poeple to have a very over-the shoulder view instead.

Hopefully it will change in the future, I can't be the only one that would greatly prefer a centered camera view with my character in the middle rather then to the side.

I actually like the offset camera. I just wish it was offsett the other way as there are UI elements in the bottom left corner. Nothing is really in the right corner.

I'm assuming they did this so players can easily select who is in front of them when they're doing large scale battles like PVP. Just a guess, though.

They could make an option for those who wants to adjust the camera, as an Archer, i like the camera the way it is... and i play on 3rd person, being on center would disturb the aiming.

I sent in /feedback about this. I didn't like the over-the-shoulder view in Skyrim and I don't like it in ESO. Every other 3rd person game uses a centered view. It only makes sense to use a centered view- why extend your view to your right but restrict it to your left? That's what Skyrim's / ESO's view does and it's a hindrance.

+1 feels like a bad 3rd person shooter.

Yup a center camera would make it seem more familiar and natural to those who have been playing third-person MMOs and even single-player games.

Wouldn't that crowd the targeting cursor?

The offset camera surprised me at first but ultimately didn't bother me. It's actually a bit refreshing since all other traditional MMOs use the same features. That being said, I can understand some people's frustration and an option to change sides or to center the camera would be a nice addition. In the end, it doesn't affect anyone but the person playing anyway so why not give people the option to choose what they like?

What's the harm in making it an option though? Let people choose if they want the tried and true centered camera view (the cursor can simply be made to show through the player character if need be) or they can choose an over the shoulder view.

I think even the over the shoulder view should have the option to be switched from over the left or right shoulder (if it's not already like that).

Yes I dislike the over the shoulder view too; always have.

I therefore zoom out as far as I can go so the crosshair is over the toon's head. Not ideal, but there you go.

No you would need to place it well over the characters head, I'm surprised how well it work in ESO, I did not like it in Fallout or Skyrim but 3rd person works great for me.

It does seem far less pronounced than on Skyrim. Yeah a left handed feature would be cool.

They need to allow center, left or right cameras at the press of a button, frankly, along with FOV slider for first-person.

I thought that was 1st person view... :D

I did not think about this, but I am no big mmo player.
