Central California Locations

I am just wondering if there was any mention ever about the areas around Fresno Ca, and Modesto Ca. Both are mid sized cities in real world California and I can't remember if they were mentioned in any fallout game. Fresno is more well known in RL but Modesto is almost dead center in the middle of the state.

Probably wiped out. Not all cities could survive a blast from the nuke's power.

One can look at these maps and assume where Fresno and Modesto were. Obviously Spoiler alert if ya did not play the game yet:

By then Fresno would most probably have a population of over a million so it's very possible it was targeted by nukes. Same would go for Modesto as it's a business area.

Wow, I've played all the games and I never realized that Vault City was that far north in relation to real life.

I am from central CA and I can safely assume that we here Modesto would be one of the most important strategic cities in this state. We are dead center of the state and all rail line tie into us. I have even heard rumors that the reason we are not the state capital is that it would put too many important military targets in one location. Obviously I can't be certain but just a cursory logic pass leads me to that assumption. Also yeah I think that the Fresno metro area would have over a million people in it. It is really close to several military installations.

@Qawsed Asap - You are probably correct. I was just curious if it was ever actually mentioned in canon. Those maps have one bad flaw...they dont show the entire state nor do they even give me any good frame of reference to try and narrow down where things might be.

Ooops...sorry...I didnt see that last one. I would seem that nothing in the game is even CLOSE to Modesto...lol

Are the maps distorted in some way, or why I've yet to see a Fallout world map with locations in their right places?

To start, they are not supposed to as they serve for in-game travel and also you have a pretty damn good frame of reference, Los Angels in Fallout 1, San Francisco and Reno in Fallout 2.

And that "real life" make is wrong on the location of the Oil Rig as its somewhere in the Pacific.

The maps are not done to be 100% accurate to real wold locations, its not "geez, I wonder if my house was bombed" (it was) but to show the world map ingame travel, that is why its actually LOOKS like someone nuked the place instead of using GoogleEarth 2010 edition.
