I thought it would be a good idea to write down and talk about all the new info coming up from CES 2014 that relates to gaming in some way or another in a single forum thread.
So here I start, writing some game-related news. The first post will be updated in the following days, and feel free to write a news story in a post if it isn't on the first one.
Ok,so I will break different pieces of information to individual subjects,to keep things organized.
Steam Machines
# Valve announced a total of 14 hardware partners that will be making their own Steam Machines.
# A variety of shapes and sizes and prices for Steam Machines, costing from 499$ up to 6000$,the smallest one at the size of a PSU,the biggest almost as an ordinary PC tower case.
# Hardware manufacturers spoke with connotations that showed bitterness against Microsoft, probably reflecting the reduced PC hardware sales Windows 8 is responsible for.
# People had hands-on with the Steam Controller. It seems the controller needs time to get used to,though after a while it becomes ok and its quite more accurate than controllers with sticks.
Oculus Rift
# The final hardware will use OLED technology outputting 1080p resolution, even more sensors, and a front camera.
# Oculus made its own game development studio and John Carmack is making an exclusive first party game for the Rift.
# The Rift will feature its own GUI,and standalone functions.
Playstation Now
# Playstation Now is a new subscription based service, where people will be able to play unlimited Playstation games for a monthly fee. Not only this will be available for Playstation devices, but also SmartTVs,tablets, and Smartphones.
Someone will be able to plug a Dual Shock controller directly to a TV's usb port and play Playstation games through the Cloud.
AMD
# AMD showcased Battlefield 4 with Mantle enabled. At the presentation the frame rate was between 110 and 60 frames per second, and AMD claimed it ran 45% better.
# They also showed once more the Discovery tablet kit that makes it like a tablet has a standard console like gamepad.
# At one point they showed a thin piece the size of a smartphone saying that it was a full desktop PC and that it is the future. No more info on what that was,not even the name of it.
Razer
# They showed "Christine",their own 100% silent, enthusiast desktop computer, being the most modular ever, and also having all components cooled by mineral liquid cooling.
